About True Traveller:

True Traveller - Travel Insurance designed by Travellers

When travelling overseas, the one thing you should never skimp on is your travel insurance cover, as should things go wrong you want the very best cover for you and your possessions.

At The True Traveller, we’re used to advising people on travelling all around the world, and due to feedback from our customers we’ve changed our insurance website, made it even better value and extended the range of products.

On Single Trips, we offer three Policies called True Value, Traveller and Traveller Plus. True Value is designed for travellers under 40 years of age, and is designed for last minute travellers and backpackers. The Traveller policy, our most popular, is designed for holiday makers and adventurous travellers alike, and Traveller Plus gives enhanced medical and cancellation cover.

On our Multi Trip Policies, again we offer the Traveller policy valid for unlimited trips throughout the year for durations up to 30 days, and the Traveller Plus policy which offers enhanced cover for unlimited trips lasting up to 70 days. We also have a budget True Value Policy for travellers under 40 years of age.

We’ve tried to get the prices as keen as possible on all our insurances. This means on the Single Trip and Multi-Trip you have the option to exclude Baggage Cover as this may well be covered in your Home Contents insurance; you also have the option to add-in different activity packs. The Traveller Pack covers 92 of the regular holiday activities which you will get involved in, and covers clerical/non-manual work as standard. The Adventure Pack covers a further 41 activities and is designed for the more adventurous traveller and backpacker, covering trekking to 4,600m, as well as volunteer work and manual work. The Extreme and Ultimate Packs covers all the more extreme and ultimate adventures. The Extreme covers trekking over 4,600m to any altitude, as well as Scuba Diving to 50M. The Ultimate covers Hang Gliding, Mountaineering and Polo to name just three of the Ultimate adventures!

To be honest, I cannot comment too much on the review as I haven't had the luxury of using the insurance yet (luckily). However the process was very smooth, everything has been very clear, and even on the insurance document you get with it has a simple and easy instruction showing you what to do if you ever need them-which is great!! For the moment, I will definitely be recommending this to others, as the price is not too much more expensive than other good insurers, and I am told you get what you pay for!

REVIEW ON PURCHASE ONLY I have only just started my trip so I don't have any experience of the claims process however I have recently researched a lot of insurance providers and I personally really like this site, it is quite expensive but it is still cheaper than World Nomads (quote based on one year of cover) and it offers a few nice little extras. I like the option to include an excess waiver because World Nomads is now £100 which is too high in my opinion, on my last long term trip I made three claims with World Nomads but the value of each claim wasn't much higher than the excess fee so it didn't feel like great value in the end despite all three claims being paid. It is one of the few providers I've seen that only requires a CBT certificate (dated within two years) and not a full licence to use a moped which was perfect for me as I'm travelling in Asia where there are plenty of opportunities to ride a motorcycle, having just been CBT certified back in the UK. Having started a long term trip with no real plan this policy was useful because of the 'one way' option as it doesn't require a return flight for the purpose of policy validity. The site has great reviews on Trustpilot and it was very user friendly with plenty of options to tailor the policy to my trip which wasn't very common on other sites which made me feel this provider is well suited to experienced backpackers, I thought the valuables limit was a little low considering the price of the policy however it wasn't too different from other competitors. I'm a bit concerned about the epidemic/pandemic exclusion with the policy given the development of the current coronavirus outbreak however I found this exclusion to be in every policy so I can't really mark them down for it. My hypothyroidism condition was also automatically covered without needing to declare it which was also useful as this increased the price of most other policies. True Traveller definitely looks like a great alternative to World Nomads for people looking for cheaper without compromising reliability and depth of cover.

This is my second time for me insuring with True Traveler. The first time I had to claim a case and the team was very fast, professional and helpful. It was clear that I would choose them again, so I could concentrate on travel and adventure without worrying about insurance.

I was having trouble finding travel insurance while I was already out of the country, but True Traveler came to the rescue! Their website is clear and easy to use, their rates are very reasonable, and I always had a helpful reply to my email within just a few hours. You could definitely find cheaper insurance from a comparison website, but for me it is worth paying that bit extra to have great service and real clarity about what you are covered for. Fingers crossed I won't need to make a claim, but if I do I suspect that the True Traveler team will be just as helpful as they have been so far!

Very pleased to have booked my travel insurance with True Traveller. Craig was really helpful going through my options and showed that it would be better and slightly cheaper to book an annual multi trip policy instead of the single one I was initially looking at. Thank you.

I have only just bought my insurance policy so can only rate the initial service that I have received. I was having trouble finding cover for my specific travel circumstances and having a pre-existing medical condition but True Traveller covered everything I needed within their standard policy. I rang them with queries 3 times before buying a policy and was very impressed with how quick and easy it was to get through and how helpful all of the staff were. So far so good!

The price is good and the coverage as well. It's just not very ethical to ask for reviews from people as soon as they book their insurance. I mean how can it be a "bad experience". The real question is whether I can count on them while suffering from some horrible illness in the middle of nowhere. Until then, the "experience" is great, but useless as a guide for others on whether this insurance is good or not. Why write a review then, you might ask? They offer a chance to get the insurance reimbursed for writing a review. A bit cheeky, but if I win I'll definitely upgrade to 5 stars. Jokes aside, the phone assistance was helpful and it was easy to book the insurance. Hopefully I'll never have to find out how well the coverage works. I do like the option of being able to book while already traveling and the no nonsense about having a "return ticket".

The website is straightforward, simple user interface and offers 3 levels of cover with options to build your own unique policy to ensure you're covered doing everything! The only company offering a 2 year insurance plan with no extra cost if you are already travelling.

Friendly, easy to use, transparent service. I hope I never have to claim, but the service I've received in the run up to my policy has me reassured I'm in good hands!

So, it's the first time for me with True Traveller Insurance, known thanks to a friend of mine. It's exactly what I was looking for in order to travel as a backpacker for several months around Europe. It was so easy to apply and customize it according to my needs.
