When travelling overseas, the one thing you should never skimp on is your travel insurance cover, as should things go wrong you want the very best cover for you and your possessions.

At The True Traveller, we’re used to advising people on travelling all around the world, and due to feedback from our customers we’ve changed our insurance website, made it even better value and extended the range of products.

On Single Trips, we offer three Policies called True Value, Traveller and Traveller Plus. True Value is designed for travellers under 40 years of age, and is designed for last minute travellers and backpackers. The Traveller policy, our most popular, is designed for holiday makers and adventurous travellers alike, and Traveller Plus gives enhanced medical and cancellation cover.

On our Multi Trip Policies, again we offer the Traveller policy valid for unlimited trips throughout the year for durations up to 30 days, and the Traveller Plus policy which offers enhanced cover for unlimited trips lasting up to 70 days. We also have a budget True Value Policy for travellers under 40 years of age.

We’ve tried to get the prices as keen as possible on all our insurances. This means on the Single Trip and Multi-Trip you have the option to exclude Baggage Cover as this may well be covered in your Home Contents insurance; you also have the option to add-in different activity packs. The Traveller Pack covers 92 of the regular holiday activities which you will get involved in, and covers clerical/non-manual work as standard. The Adventure Pack covers a further 41 activities and is designed for the more adventurous traveller and backpacker, covering trekking to 4,600m, as well as volunteer work and manual work. The Extreme and Ultimate Packs covers all the more extreme and ultimate adventures. The Extreme covers trekking over 4,600m to any altitude, as well as Scuba Diving to 50M. The Ultimate covers Hang Gliding, Mountaineering and Polo to name just three of the Ultimate adventures!

“This review relates only to the application process. Firstly, the policy allows for travel having already commenced. The application process was straightforward but due to some quirk I was not able to pay online. So, I telephoned and the assistant was extremely helpful enabling me to complete the application and the payment.”

“Used True Traveller for my previous backpacking trip round Asia. During this time, I broke my toe, caught typhus and contracted dengue fever. I went to top hospitals in each case and received all the required treatment (going above and beyond - even getting surgery on my toe). True Traveller paid out for everything. Top tip would be to pay extra for zero excess, I don't know if I'd have been so quick to go to hospital for the tick bites if it wasn't free - turned out this would have been a huge mistake, so I will always pay more upfront for zero excess in the future. Off on another backpacking trip now and I am using True Traveller, this time for both my partner and myself. Love the fact you can tailor your package to different adventure needs so easily.”

“Luke and the whole team from True Traveller have been extremely helpful with my insurance. I have contacted them numerous times with multiple questions because I am going on a backpacking trip to multiple countries whilst international border restrictions are constantly changing due to COVID-19. True Traveller has responded to all my queries very quickly in a kind and professional manner. They are a very reliable and much-needed safety net; should anything happen I feel comfortable and confident knowing I can reach out to them and they will respond. I am yet to travel so I cannot comment regarding the claims, but as of now I feel very assured that I am in capable hands should any such situations arise. Due to the constant changing of restrictions from countries due to COVID-19, I am almost certain that I will need their assistance. I will write another review (hopefully a very positive one) after my travels. True Traveller, thank you for your continued assistance and amazing customer service.”

“Best of a bad lot I suppose. However always helpful and always good service from the contact centre staff and members of the management. Claims dealt with quickly on my last claim 3 years ago. However underwriter has changed so cannot comment now. Had cover for years and will do going forward but it doesn't meet my needs. My only complaint is they are just like every other UK insurer. As soon as there's a travel advisory from the UK Gov you are not covered for that. Yeah I know if your already in the zone it's fine but this is a traveller policy. We move. The COVID cover is invalid. It's currently possibly the biggest global risk. The UK Gov stick travel advisories on for no legitimate reason on countries like Zambia just because of currently 11 cases of Omicron. Yet the UK has many many more cases. So we loose our cover. You also must be vaccinated. Standard terms for UK. So if T is reading this why don't you sort it out. You yourself told me that you've had only a handful of claims for COVID and that only the USA one made your balance sheet. So why don't you get your underwriter to address this as some of the European and USA insurers ones. We want COVID cover irrespective of advisories. If they said don't travel to Juba in South Sudan because if the war....you'd still cover COVID. It's lunacy. Yet if I get shot I'm not covered which is understandable. How many COVID claims have you had...yet it's excluded again for half of Africa. I lost 6 months of my policy this year and my renewal is already invalid on the day I purchased it !!!”
