“Due to the inadequate packaging only 3 stars. The large staples where obviously inadequate for my 2 x 2ft shelves as the whole parcel was falling apart when I picked it up from the parcel force depot”

“I bought a fireplace beam and it was beautiful but I had personal concerns that the fittings were not going to be strong enough to hold such a heavy beam and they were not as described on the website for the weight of the beam. However, I contacted the company via email, who were always quick with their responses and polite. They explained everything to me but in the end I decided to take up their offer of swopping for another beam with the fittings I believed I was getting. This arrived quite quickly and is now up and looks beautiful. Our fire place fitters agreed the beam is good quality and looks great but they were still reticent about the new fittings - they advise a bar frame fitting - but once up they agreed it feels safe. I would recommend this company - especially in how well they dealt with me in after sales - though early days for me to be able to give a review on the safety of the beam - though of course I have everything crossed.”

We are sorry to hear you had some concerns about the fixings with the beam, as a guide 2 fixings have the potential to hold up to 35kg of weight between them including the weight of the beam and they are designed to hold the weight of the beam. “A red flag with Traditional Beams is their 'no returns no refunds' policy on certain items. I ordered a 90cm long basin shelf with a white finish that cost £218. Close to delivery I received an email to say that it had been made 5cm too deep. Would I like it altered (a 2 day delay)? In order not to hold up work I decided to accept the shelf as it was and cut it down. However, when it arrived I also found: 1) a strip roughly one quarter of the laminated surface was a noticeably darker shade than the rest. 2) both sides were splattered with flecks and splodges of pale blue. When I queried this, the response from the company can be summarised as: "The marks are made by wood filler, necessary to fill in cracks or broken knots. The strip of darker wood is only to be expected with oak laminate." And this invaluable piece of advice: "Try using the better side when you fit the shelf." I expected much better for a shelf that cost £218.”

Hello, Sorry to hear you are not happy with your purchase. It does say on our listing that this item is non returnable, this is also listed in our FAQ's, we can only assume our customers read what information is provided to them. Lighter and darker sections of timber are to be expected with solid oak. To create the depth of the sink shelves we professionally laminate the pieces of timber together. We do this for two reasons: Minimise the amount of waste we produce and as a result offer more competitive prices. Increase the stability of the timber reducing the risk of movement. By laminating the timber together it creates more natural variation in the wood making the piece unique and one of a kind. As oak is a natural product each piece can vary with regards to the colour as some pieces are naturally lighter/darker than others - it all depends on what tree it has been cut down from. This is also shown in the photos on the website confirming staves can vary slightly in colour. The filler that we use is a black wood filler. Filling timber has been a tried and tested method for many years and is typically industry standard. The product wouldn't be fit for purpose if broken knots or cracks were left exposed. The shelf you have received and the shelves we advertise on the website are exactly the same. Perhaps this was missed when you originally looked at the photos.
