I absolutely loved this course. The units are well structured and have extensive amounts of detail into not only English as a language but also how to teach the language to learners of all ages. I feel so grateful that I chose this course as I feel very prepared for my year of teaching English in Vietnam!

I completed the level 5 TEFL academy course and did the 10 hour online teaching practice. I enjoyed the course and feel it has given me an in depth and well rounded knowledge of how to teach English. I am looking forward to finding a job in the industry which the TEFL academy give assistance on. The assignments were difficult but really helped me understand how to plan lessons. I feel as a well respected course I have been given an excellent grounding. The 10 hour online teaching course made me feel much more confident.

I completed the Level 5 TEFL course early in January 2021. I found the course to be very well structured but quite difficult for the hours granted to complete it. I, therefore, had to extend my learning period and very nearly didn't complete it in time! I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in teaching English to foreign language students, online or in person.

I took the TEFL Level 5 course over the course of the last 6 months. I found the workload manageable on top of a full time job. I liked the way they focussed on what was really important to know and provided links to additional resources. Most of all I was impressed by the detailed and balanced feedback from the examiners - clearly experts in their field.

The TEFL Academy and its 168-hour course are one of the better TEFL courses out there. The online course is very detailed in what you are taught, while some of it may feel less important than other parts of the course - they are all relevant. The latter part of the course is less about what you need to learn to teach but extra information to add to your teaching. Before starting the course, I like many that will be stumbling upon this review, did some research. After all, paying a hefty amount for an online course - one of the biggest reservations is 'Is this too good to be true? Am I getting value for my money?' and while The TEFL Academy has a lot of positive reviews - some of the negative reviews did stick with me and make me hesitate. So I want to address some of the concerns you might see. 1) People being kicked off the course and not knowing why and not getting a refund. Answer: Read the fine print. Now I can't say why they were kicked off the course. However, they do tell you at the beginning you have 3 chances to pass on your assignments. I believe they also say if you fail the end-of-unit tests after a certain amount, they have the right to kick you off the course. Also if they believe you have stolen work or other people's assignments online. They can kick you off. Treat this as a University course. They ask for references in the assignments so reference everything. I always say it's better over-reference everything as a precaution than under-reference thinking some parts don't need to be referenced. 2) You only get limited access to the course. Answer: This is misinformation. They tell you that you only get access to the course for 6 months - the duration you have to complete the course. They tell you afterward you won't have access. This is The TEFL Academy's right. After all, it's their course, their property. My advice - once again, treat it as a University Course. Write notes, whether it's in a notebook, on a document, or as a PowerPoint. Write down what you are learning. This is what I did, it not only helped me process and remember what I'm being taught, but also provided me material to quickly look back on for assignments and for the future when teaching English. Don't just read and click 'Next' on the online course - you are not learning that way. 3) I couldn't get in contact with any of the TEFL Academy teachers or Tutors for help on support on assignments. Answer: This one is subjective. I can't answer for all and only off personal experience. But I was surprised by how good the contact was. They operated off a ticket system. Which I reacted very negatively to at first. I like many have contacted different companies that use this system and often you are waiting weeks, sometimes months or never get a response from them - and then they say adding another ticket just pushes you further down the line. However, with The TEFL Academy, I would receive a response within 72 hours at most, sometimes the same day or the next day. My advice is always to check your Spam/Junk folder - even with submitting assignments - a lot of emails from TEFL regarding my assignments and TEFL tutors ended up there and I wouldn't have noticed unless I regularly checked the folder daily. My only criticism regarding contact is I would have liked one consistent tutor to speak with - when it came to needing guidance and giving feedback on my assignments. This is because I felt there was a difference in the quality of feedback given in the three assignments by the different TEFL tutors. Now, you may be looking at doing the course with The TEFL Academy, you may be wondering whether to pay extra to do the weekend classroom course or not? I did the weekend classroom and I recommend doing it. The weekend course is designed to match the course. So if you attend the classroom having started the course or completed it, you will find that a lot of it, you have already learned on the online course. This may make you think it's a waste in paying extra for the weekend course. It isn't. I'd say you are at more of an advantage in the classroom than the people that haven't started the online course. I found myself already familiar with the stuff in the weekend course. And bits I wasn't confident in or unsure of, were explained to me in a way I finally understood. Having a live teacher be able to explain the meaning behind 'Perfect' in perfect tenses made me understand what I am planning to teach others. The weekend course is very information-heavy, going in without starting the course will overwhelm you, however, if you start the course then it's more of a revision or refresher and anything new taught is not too much information at once that you forget the other stuff. Also, another benefit is the lesson practices. They are daunting at first, but you work in a group and get feedback provided by the teacher. This not only gives you good information on what to do for the assignments (which all centre around lesson planning and activities in some form) but also allows you to gain confidence in speaking to an audience and in lesson planning. Day 1, I was nervous about doing my group's lesson to the class. I wasn't confident in my group and wasn't confident in what I was doing. However Day 2, I was much more confident. Not just because I was in a slightly different group, but I felt confident in how our group was working and what we were doing. I was under no illusion that it was the perfect lesson plan (after all we only had a short time to prepare and a short time to teach), but I felt we did the best we could and we all felt comfortable in our roles and what we were doing. Don't get me wrong, I still get nervous about speaking in front of a crowd, however, being confident in what I was teaching and what I know eased up my nerves way more than not knowing what I am doing. All in all, I wasn't disappointed in the course. Having previously done a 50-hour course with a different reputable company, I've come out of this course more confident and determined to find a job teaching abroad. My previous experience, while only a shorter course left me determined to find another company and The TEFL Academy's style of teaching makes you work for your qualification with the assignments - you are not merely paying X amount to watch a bunch of short teaching videos or someone speaking and then filling out a short multiple-choice quiz at the end of every unit. You have to work for it. The TEFL Academy has succeeded in what X company failed to do in every respect. I left The TEFL Academy weekend classroom course feeling like I've actually learned something and with some confidence in my ability to plan and teach lessons....unlike last time. And I left The TEFL Academy online course not only having learned something but also having an idea of how to plan lessons of different styles (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, Grammar, etc) and having some confidence in teaching what I'm learning on the course.

I must commend The TEFL Academy on presenting the course. I have just completed the Level 5 course and, yes, it involved lots of hard work! It was definitely worth the many hours spent revising the material and preparing lessons. I feel well equipped to face the next step of becoming a TEFL teacher!
