The course was just "okay" in my opinion. I'm a seasoned veteran teacher but I've never taught English language learners. I'm in the USA and the immigrants I'm seeing (and trying to help) need conversational English to navigate job searches, dealing with their children's schools, learning to navigate the bus system, etc. I thought there was WAY too much emphasis on all the grammar and too little on where to start with these learners.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We truly value your feedback, especially since you come with such a wealth of teaching experience. We understand that teaching English language learners requires a different focus, and we regret that you found the course content to be overly centered on grammar rather than practical conversational skills. Your insights are helpful, and we will certainly take them into account as we look to improve our training for future teachers. If you have any more suggestions or if there’s anything else we can assist you with, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Wishing you all the best in your teaching efforts! The courses they offer do cover a lot of great material. However, that's not enough for me to warrant a higher review. Let me break down why. First, there a tremendous amount of grammar mistakes like: misspelled words, run on sentences, improper use of punctuation (using the wrong punctuation, too much punctuation, or not enough), awkwardly phrased sentences (sentences that don't make sense), sentences that improperly use single and plural forms (some sentences were completely singular and had a random plural word or would be completely plural with a random singular word, and more. Second, the amount of duplicated material in courses between units that don't add any additional information or point than what was previously given. Third, on multiple choice exams there were many questions that either: A) had more than one actual answer in the answer key. B) the question being asked and the answer needed did not align (meaning the question asked about one thing, but the answer had to do with something totally different). C) were poorly/ confusingly written in a way that even when you went to look back at any note you made and the material they gave throughout the course you still couldn't make any sense of it and had to randomly guess. Fourth, the written exams are extremely poorly put together. 1. There is clearly a misunderstanding about how word count works. You can't ask someone to answer a 3/4 part question in 150 words if you're asking someone to (using tenses for example): A) explain/ list all of the tenses (past, past simple, past simple perfect, past continuous, past perfect continuous, present, present perfect simple, present simple, present continuous, present perfect continuous, future, future simple, future perfect simple, future continuous, future perfect continuous) B) explain how they form and as used C) compare and contrast them D) explain why tense is important and what would occur if we didn't have it. Word count by definition is the minimum required amount of words needed to accurately convey the material information to someone who "does not" know anything about the material. The questions being asked and the material needed to answer questions do not align with the word count most of not all of the time. 2. There were a few times where the question being asked was not the question they wanted answered. There were at least 2-3 times where I was told that no one else had pointed out this problem. I would get feedback back saying I answered the question wrong that "this" was the information they were looking for but the question was not asking for that information. If this were an actual educational institution (primary or secondary) the teacher would've gotten into trouble. I will give an example not related to the ones from the exams. Ex: If the teacher showed you a picture of a dog and a cat and asked you to talk about the dog. Then fail your answer because they wanted to know about the cat. If you want an answer or explanation about something specific then you need to ask that. You don't ask about something else, and then fail students for giving an answer that answers the question you asked. 3. If you ask students to come up with their own lesson plan. You can't fail them for it, because it doesn't look like the lesson plan you would design. Everyone will have their own unique style of teaching and how they write their lesson plans. Additionally, it makes no sense to me as to why a tutor would share the information written in the lesson plans with students. As lesson plans are meant to be the guide for the teacher during the lesson. Students may get an overview in a syllabus, but beyond that they aren't going to need to know how and why you structured the lesson. What is important is that the students are being taught the material, that they can practice the material, and that they begin to understand or understand the material presented. The example plans shown at times left me with more questions. For example: activity on the board practicing past continuous tense. P/W 1. This is awkwardly worded. 2. What kind of activity (as this doesn't specify)? 3. How is the activity going to work? 4. Does P/W mean pair work? Does it mean pair work and whole class? It's much simpler to just write out pair work. Also, standard writing dictates that before be abbreviate a word we must spell the word/ words out in their entirety. This is to prevent confusion and allow readers to go back in the text to see what the abbreviation meant if they forget. This rule doesn't apply for commonly used abbreviations (etc, ex/eg, cont). Most abbreviations also don't use a backslash there are exceptions like N/A, but most of the time people would just write PW for pair work if they are abbreviating it unnecessarily. 4. Shorthand should not be used when writing a lesson plans as you may forget while teaching what your shorthand meant. Fifth, practice quizzes that don't count are a good idea. However, the point of practice tests or quizzes are that they contain questions that may be on the graded test. It is extremely rare to have dozens or more practice quizzes and not have a single question from those ever appear on a graded test. Now, I am not saying every question from a practice quiz or test should be on the graded test. There should at least be one or two though. Especially, if prior to taking the graded test one of the recommendations is to review the practice quizzes. Lastly, in the forum where students ask questions and can respond to each other there is an astronomical amount of students saying the say things. They mention the same issues and problems that don't seem to get resolved or fixed. Which creates the following questions: 1. Why haven't any of the problems been fixed? 2. Why haven't any of the grammatical errors been fixed? 3. Why haven't any of the questions/ answers in both multiple choice and written exams been fixed? 4. Is there even an editor or someone who reviews the material before it was published? Or a team dedicated to updating and fixing the current errors to prevent future issues? This is why I gave the rating I did. To me it's mind boggling that a program geared towards helping create future English language teachers has this many issues. That even with multiple years of students who have paid to learn have said the same things and nothing has changed.

This course is great, but I have some concerns about the payment structure. It seems unfair to pay so much and then have the course expire if you don't complete it within a certain time frame. This could be really difficult for people with busy schedules, like those juggling work, school, and family. It's disappointing that such a good course has this limitation.

Dear Joshua, Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback on The TEFL Org. We truly appreciate your honesty and value your experience with our course. We appreciate your concerns about the course expiring within a certain timeframe. On average our courses are completed within 12 weeks, so the 5 to 7 month timeframe we provide certainly takes into consideration our student's busy life. We appreciate other life situations outside jobs, family and study can get in the way though, which is why we provide the option to extend. Once again, thank you for your feedback and for choosing The TEFL Org. Best regards, The TEFL Org team.

Sadly, I didn't have a great experience with this course. There were good points and I certainly learned many things, but there were some glaring flaws that I found unnecessarily obstructive or outright irritating. For a course that teaches teaching, I didn't find the teaching to be particularly helpful and the course's own advice wasn't really followed (at least by my tutor). The real sad truth is that by the end of this course I wanted to do anything but teach English... It sucked out all the enthusiasm I had for this subject. There were 4 major issues I had with this course: 1) Certain subjects were either over-taught or under-taught. The information relating to Gerunds was very brief for example and I never fully grasped it from the course. The course also speaks about the 'Schwa phonetic' and even tests you on it, but never actually explains what it is. This is in contrast to the overly lengthy information about how the throat pronounces different phonetics which was overkill and far too detailed. 2) Exam questions are often written poorly and often contradictory. I found myself too often having to try and work out what the question was actually asking even when I knew the subject or answer. I failed a test because although I knew the subject and the answer, the answers listed were so obtuse, I couldn't determine which one to choose. I failed an exam 3 times not due to poor subject knowledge, but the questions being worded poorly. 3) The process to redo an exam if failed is TERRIBLE. This is one of the most backwards processes I've ever seen for a course. If you fail, you're told to contact 'Thomas' (I still have no idea who this Thomas guy even is...), where you confess your sins and ask for redemption for another try. It was like being sent to a headteacher. After failing ONCE this entire course, Thomas told me he'll reset the course 'ONE LAST TIME'. What do you mean 'one last time'? What then? Thankfully I never had to find out, but a bizarre threat after a single failure isn't a great way to encourage learning. In fact, I just felt like an inconvenience for him and their IT department. Thomas then told me to contact him before a final attempt, which I did on another exam but he never responded. I chased him for help and still no reply. My tutor also said she couldn't help. In the end, I did it myself and thankfully passed as I still never got a reply. This process is incredibly dumb and discouraging. 4) Tutors are not tutors, they're nothing more than assessors. Sadly, I found my tutor Denise (Dee) to be unhelpful and at times even rude. I don't to be unkind in my review, but I found her to be unnecessarily critical over minor details and failing me over tiny things. It simply killed any creativity and joy I had towards the course and teaching as a whole and found myself adding things awkwardly to assessments just to tick certain boxes. I didn't find her responses useful. On one occasion after a failed attempt she sent her feedback which wasn't very clear. After then failing the second attempt, SHE COPIED AND POSTED THE SAME UNHELPFUL FEEDBACK. At this point, I emailed her for extra help and said I couldn't understand the feedback. She then copied and pasted the same feedback A THIRD TIME. I'm not an idiot. If it didn't help last time, it won't help the 3rd time you send it. I felt she wasn't there to teach, she was just there to assess and did so very critically. It was just demoralising. Getting any real help felt like getting blood out of a stone. I found myself relying on external sources and other websites more than my tutor. This was in complete contrast to what the course says a good tutor should be. I'm thankful for the things I did learn, but I felt the support was poor, the process to reset an exam was very poor, and the fact that it's put me off teaching to be very sad.

I have reverted back to using i-to-i for further education purposes because their instructors/assessors are less neurotic and the course content is much more proffessional.

This may not have been the right course for me, as I already had experience as a teacher. I feel like I haven't learnt anything that I didn't know before, which is extremely unusual for such a wide course. Also, the concepts taught in the grammar section are too simple, those are all things everyone should know already, the course should teach some more complex grammar. In general, it has felt a bit weak for a teaching course which was not cheap at all. Lastly, the videos are terribly slow, the staff tries to make them fun but it just comes across as childish sometimes and I had a hard time watching them without cringing most of the time, perhaps find younger and more dynamic teachers?

Overall, I have had a very pathetic and lifeless experience with this program and I think it could use improvement. As someone who has taken online courses before, I found this one to be lacking in personal value and I should have none by the front page of the website looking too good to be true. I felt lost and out of the loop once I started. There were spelling errors everywhere. My first tutor was so terrible, I didn't even know I had one until halfway through my first course. She was not helpful and very laconic. I got switched to another tutor who could at least be patient enough to explain some things to me about the program that was not otherwise disclose. I felt lost and forgotten about. I have supicion this program is understaffed or alot smaller than it appears to be. The program is just mostly watching videos and doing multiple-choice questions on subjects that are redundant. I didn't learn many new things or anything interesting to apply. Classes ranked from most useful and engaging to the least: Grammar (straightforward but lacks intuitive ways of teaching), Methodology (the work is engaging but not balanced properly), Teaching large audiences (has some methods other professional teachers I talked to disagreed with), but hands down the worst one was telephone teaching. I was hoping that telephone teaching class would be relevant, but I found it extremely lackluster, and the final exam was unusually difficult for having an entire section on different outdated video streaming software. I would NOT reccomend TEFL.org.uk at all to non native english speakers as a native speaker myself, I struggled to understand the sentence formatting and termonology. It was distracting and very ironic....being a class that was supposed to teach me how to teach english. Also a majority of the videos is them just reading the course meterial to you allowed, I cant imagine a more boring way to learn anything, ever. I dealt with numerous technical errors such as being logged out over and over, not being able to log in, being accused of using AI when there wasn't any, and classes constantly saying they were incomplete when I had already completed them. I would have to re-watch things over and over to get the video to say complete. You pay for what you get. But the technical difficulties were what made the class go from mediocre to nightmarish. I told everyone I knew how I couldn't wait to be done and just get the certificate so I could spend my precious time learning in another class. The external resources and information is very shallow and way to optmistic where as other tefl courses actually give you cold hard facts and legit links or refferences. 2 stars. Originally 1 for being a bad experience overall but I will give one for their demonstration videos being authentic and for the course being affordable. This course has really affected my mental health worse than any class I have ever taken and everyone around me was shocked at truly how bad it was. Its dry and robotic experience has demotivated me from being excited to become a TEFL teacher. I wouldnt be so harsh if I wasnt being honest or if I was young and naive but I have taken online courses that were way better. Needs improvment. I strongly suggest a community hub that isnt a forum. A live chat is needed to understand some of these things otherwise it will take you months to pass this course to get all your questions and concerns answered so I just saught out support and community elsewere. At least please hire someone to fix the technical errors and typos. Update some of the course work. I got a grammar book from the thrift store for 50 cents that was more fun and engaging. Was not life changing. All the non lesson related issues was a huge waste of my valuable learning time and gave me a feeling of distrust. I wanted to look into teaching through the internship program through them but I think I will take my chances elseware. I have no idea why people would rank this 5 stars. I think those people are naive, or fake reviews. Also Live chat and Telephone was a option? I am online seeing this now in the review options. Further proving my point the tutors and assistance with this program were next to nothing. As a student I felt dismissed. How quick did they respond? I only get the option of 6-12 hours or over a week but the average is 1-3 days. Further proving my point their system avoids accountability. Whoever is running this program is definatly selling a product, not working for a school lol.

Horrendous. 6 months learning solitary online with only 2 days in person has not helped me at all. I have spent 3+ hours most days struggling alone. Not good for confidence at all. Very frustrating. I have now submitted all my work and have 7 days left. I am going to fail. My question - why would I pay a further £69 to sit for another month on my own struggling with work I don't understand?

Overall I believe the TAs were very difficult when marking assignments. After the course I showed my colleagues who work in a school their feedback and they also believed that the feedback was very harsh. Because of their harsh feedback I had to do an extension which put me over budget.

The course was okay. I passed easily enough. My main frustrations with the course: 1. The website is glitchy. Takes ages to load regardless of browser and internet connection. Page constantly redirects to other part so site. 2. Course content generic and not very interesting. Same with tutor feedback on assignments - they give vague stock answers. 3. Really expensive product. What I liked about the course: 1. Easy to pass 2. Tutors mark assignments promptly.

Overall I wasn't really happy with my experience of the course. I felt the grammar explanations were insufficient, the layout of the course was poor (large number of pages to click through without any real purpose), the video demonstrations of classes had terrible audio, and the questions for many of the assessments were extremely vague and open-ended. The sales pitch regarding work opportunities is also a bit misleading. If you don't have a bachelor's degree and/or experience, you're pretty much excluded from teaching in 99% of the locations they have listed, which makes this a pointless qualification unless you want to teach online or over the phone.

Lackluster, needs improvement and I feel more like a customer than a student. I am halfway through the course and I don't see why the reviews are so high and it was misleading for me to choose the program based on the high reviews. TEFL has de-motivated me from being a teacher. The so called "live chat" isnt what you think it is. Get ready for just an email saying you are in the program- and then, nothing. You wont even hear a peep from your tutor not even a friendly "Hello my name is __ and I will be your tutor" in your email. It took me forever to figure out how to contact them and once I did took days to get back to me. I felt like pulling my hair out whenever the lessons would talk about good styles of teaching in the methodology course, yet we as students are confined to the most passive and boring videos and multiple choice quizzes that had technical errors. I am struggling to learn in this repetitive and boring style of teaching its hilariously ironic. The teaching for not using the correct grammar was simply "Dont say this." Why is there not written assignments for Grammar? That part baffles me. I had more fun learning Grammar from a fifty cent thrift store book that was dated 1992 more than this! I thought there would be more engagement from the tutor and more feedback but all they do is provide the bare minimum and grade me with a pass or fail and I don't feel like i'm actually learning. Lacking rapport: I dont know who they are, I dont feel excited or engaged, therefor I dont feel comfortable. The class on the pros and cons of Skype? Really? Why so early in the lesson and part of the main course? Can we please focus on how to teach online not what to use to teach online that is so silly. I didn't go to massage school to have the teachers run an entire lesson on "What massage tables to buy." Sure its useful but I dont need to know name brand companies to pass the MBLEX. I kept getting booted off my classes and yes I tried 5 different devices, multiple browsers and all that but nothing helped. My units getting flagged for AI writing so I had to go in and manually misspell things and add grammar errors and re work sentences to sound more "human". Being a native English speaking person and experienced online teacher, it shouldn't be that hard to figure out what they are saying and asking for, but sometimes the questions in the quizzes were so confusing, not so bad I couldn't figure it out, but enough to feel like there was absolutely no consideration for non native English speaking people. What I liked: Affordable, downloading content for offline study (Whoever thought of that, very nice touch/option) the videos transcribed so I could have at least SOME interactive learning by reading along (I dont count the exercises, you might as well just replace them with flashcards). The videos ran fine and the video demonstrations were good quality. Able to re-take stuff, questions you failed were re-worded, so at least they have some mindfulness there, also a very thoughtful touch. Hate everything else. You get what you paid for. SUPER BORING. Cheap, factory lined and I feel like a product instead of a student. I ended up learning WAY MORE actual useful TEFL information talking to other TEFL teachers, interviewing students learning english, reading grammar books in my local library, and having real life practice with teaching classes. Talking to other teachers in school they were shocked at the way I was learning in this program. Time consuming and took out time from actually learning. There course organization is dinky and could use improvement. At least a more personable email guiding you through the experience would be helpful. A introduction course instead of it padding out the main courses would make it more straightforward and organized. Overall my experience with this has been isolating and lonely and this course is embarrassingly awkward. The forums are the only method and are bare bones. It could improve greatly with a online group chat or server for students to discuss with each other at least. An interactive something. One live meeting? Something. All we get is emails if that. I see my purchase for these classes as just as way to get my certificate and nothing more. Most cold and robotic online course I have ever taken. This is so boring and I am losing interest. I just keep pressing on and tell myself "I pray to never teach my students this way." TEFL.org has taught me what to NOT do by their own example. Two stars because its not a scam, it has some capacity and understanding and I have some idea of now what to expect from being a teacher. But its just going to be a shallow, dinky, unimpressive experience. It feels like its being way overrated. A 5 star experience would be with more more personable engagement and I know its possible and a realistic criticism, because I have taken other classes that have done so.

Doesn't prepare you to manage a real class, doesn't teach/verify that you have enough English to be an ESL teacher, paying money to do blanket assignments in order to get a certificate that will lend you credibility as a teacher - that seems to be it. I worry for the 'tutors' who are obliged to correct everything in 48 hours.

The course was informative and interesting. But honestly the organisation and communication is abysmal. From giving assignments way before fully teaching topics, to conflicting feedback on assigment which lead to me nearly failing out, and being told because of this it would be escalated to senior course management, only to then hear nothing from anyone. When after 2 weeks of silence I asked what was going on, and was told to reread the email as it wasn't going to be escalated and I needed to recomplete the assignment, even though the email outright said "this will now have to be escalated to senior course management" Near the end of my course i got an email accusing me of using AI to cheat, only to then get to the end of the email and seeing that the email wasn't actually meant for me whatsoever. Overall, it really makes me nervous to even apply for jobs with you. Moreover, even though I have finished the course, I don't actually have any personal confidence I can write lesson plans, not only from my own anxiety but also from mixed messaged I have received about my own assignments as mentioned above. I do not regret taking this course as it helps me move forward and opens new employment opportunities. But I am left wondering if it was worth it all, or will even pay off at all.

This course is poorly designed for users from the US. The zoom virtual meeting were limited and during the middle of the night for US time zone. There were only a few options to chose from and none accommodated the US time. Also the zoom classes were hours long which was overwhelming given the amount of material needed to do and learn. Overall, the module assignments were graded by an online tutor who gives feedback yet you cannot ask or reply to them.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us regarding your experience with The TEFL Org. We certainly have our Zoom virtual meetings at all times throughout the day and night, so as to accommodate our students all over the world. These can be chosen by the student at any time throughout their online course. It is also not essential to have completed your full course before attending the Zoom sessions, but these sessions can also be attended after your online course expires if preferred - we always leave this choice up to the student. Regarding the module assignments, we appreciate your recognition of the feedback provided by our online tutors. However, you will have received an email from your tutor when you first signed up detailing their direct contact details. So you could certainly have reached out to them direct at any time. Thank you again for your feedback, and please feel free to reach out with any further comments or concerns.

Overall, the course felt very disorganized and outdated. I appreciate the reasonable price, but if it were up to me I would revamp the course structure to make it more cohesive and effective. It also unfortunately reminded me of certain classes in high school/college in which I wasn't able to learn much or make the material my own because I had to learn what the specific teacher wanted and cater to them, telling them what they wanted to hear so I could pass the class but in a way that did not assist in my intellectual growth. It could also use some zhush to make it a little more interesting and eye-catching to help the prospective teachers stay engaged and therefore bring some of that magic into their own lessons to help their students.

A dated, amateuristic and poor vaky for money offering. Very poor user interface making getting through the many tiny but insubstantial units an enormous annoyance and a waste of time being forced to scroll up and down to get to the button to move on. The quizzes often have technical difficulties making them impossible to complete, the classroom examples are outdated and amateurish, etc. Serious case of buyer's regret here.
