“I enjoyed taking my courses through this particular agency. As an American, I found myself exceptionally challenged which caused me to dig deeper and study harder to complete my course activities. “The tutor that I was assigned was helpful, but it took them two days to respond to each email even if I responded within seconds. It took me three weeks to get an assignment finished due to this delay. This course gives you great information about grammar, but it is just the basics. I would have liked to see more specifics on lessons or how to pace based on a specific grade or level. This course would be good for someone who has no teaching experience with all the videos and descriptions of students' behavior. As a teacher of seven years, this was not new to me. I wish there was a version for non-teachers and current teachers. The big piece is that this course is not accepted by a lot of foreign companies due to the missing element of in class teaching or observation. This course offers 20-hour video observation, but some companies won't accept video / online only. Make sure you do your research on the company you want to work for, so you know if this is the right program for you.”

Hi Elizabeth, Thank you for your review! The timing of your tutor's replies would certainly be correct - our tutor's have 48-hours to mark their student's course work. This course focuses on teaching English as a foreign language, so we do certainly go over the basics of grammar, your tutor will have also suggested some more grammar reading material as well. A more in-depth section on grammar would only take away from the main aim of this course. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't feel the course was suitable for your circumstances. We normally receive excellent feedback from qualified teachers on how our lessons provided new ideas. I will certainly pass this feedback on to our team though, as we will always aim to improve our courses further. To teach abroad, online, or to support a career in teaching closer to home - you’ll generally require a minimum of 120 hours of TEFL training, which ideally includes some assessed teaching practice. A minimum of 120 hours of training also makes you eligible for the widest range of TEFL jobs as this is a requirement for many schools and employers both overseas and online. We therefore provide combined courses that include teaching practices. We would also certainly recommend our students consider this when choosing between an online only course or a combined teaching practice course. “I believe this certification is really beneficial and enlightening. The online course provides the user with the ability to complete and produce tasks at their own pace. I would definitely recommend anyone who would like to teach the English language to enroll in this course and become a professional tutor!”

“Pros: I got to work at my own pace, the work was more than doable in the allotted time, and the access from any device seamless. It really is very simple to do, the correct amount of challenges so it doesn't feel like you're just getting passed for no reason like some providers tend to do. Cons: Being online, you lack a practical aspect that most in-person courses provice. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but it means the prospective teacher would benefit by asking a school for a chance to voluteer to give themselves something practical to speak of. Watching from a mobile device could sometimes make a video off-center, so it's much better viewed from a laptop when sometimes. This needs a mobile mode. All in all, this was a great experience.”

“I liked the course modules. I am a native English speaker and so I know how to construct English sentences instinctively, but this TEFL course helped me understand why some sentences are constructed the way they are. Also, I learned some basic teaching techniques which will help me in the future as an English teacher.”

“I have taken a good bit of time to reflect on this. Overall, the course was informative. At the end of the course I do not feel I had all the information or tools to be able to apply for a teaching position. First, there was no information shared regarding a loose guideline as to where to start. For example, if I'm teaching a beginning student where do I start? Alphabet? Common words and present tense. To me, this seems an essential piece of teaching someone to teach English. Secondly, it would have been helpful to have been provided with assessment tools for students as opposed to having to search the entire internet and then determine which ones were valid, effective and helpful. Overall, I am not likely to take another course with TEFL. Given that it's hard to know what information will be shared during any course until you have paid for it and can access the curriculum. I have no teaching experience and do not feel my current certificate supports me in actually applying for work. My ultimate goal in having the certificate was so I could apply for teaching positions.”

“Thank you for your offer of support. Also I appreciate your tip about 'balancing'. I always strive to achieve the objective of the lesson, whilst giving added value. My problem is digression and letting the tasks and discussion go off track. Hence, I run out of time. But my students always say that they enjoy my style and want me to talk more than they do. I know that this is not actually giving the best value for money. Amongst many other things, this structured and quite rigid course has taught me discipline.
