“Very informative course and does what is needed to teach English as a foreign language. The course elements on lessons and teaching methods were very helpful (I am not a teacher by trade, so this was new ground for me). However, the elements of the course on grammar and structure of the English language was very dull and boring, and in some instances, wrong. As a native English speaker, some of the grammatical points may be technically correct, but you would never use them or speak in that way. This was very frustraing when it came to the examination sections because what is the right answer, was in fact wrong, in the eyes of the Grammar Police.”

“Very challenging on some parts, especially with the lesson plans. It's just a bit of a learning curve for those who never written one before. (This is my second career, I use to be a chef.) If you are a native speaker or went to school that taught predominantly in English, a big portion of this course feels like refresher of high school English! WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND for those who want to feel fully PREPARED to join the world of TEFL.”

“In the main, I thought that the programme was well structured and provided a lot of very good content in terms of teaching method and the basics of grammar. The videos were engaging and in particular the examples of classroom teaching. The best and most meaty courses were the methodology and grammar with the telephone, large group teaching and group observation being helpful but with some overlap in content ( e.g. the essentials of PPP etc.) The introduction course with the history of the language was more academic and of less interest to me. The learning format videos, quizzes and assignments worked pretty well but I would have liked some direct tutor contact especially when I had to re-submit assignments- all good learning but when I got things wrong it would have been better to have had a discussion rather than just pick up on the feedback on line. The weekend classroom session run by Simon French was very good and brought it all alive. I was pleased to have undertaken the methodology and grammar courses before I went on that even though this was not a pre-requisite. I definitely feel much better equipped to take on a teaching role and I feel very pleased to have studied with TEFL.”

“The grammar section was good and helpful, though the reported speech segment was very weak and I had to look for additional outside explanations. The remaining course blocks together with the feedback from the tutor was very confusing and the course material was insufficient. Often, I would create a lesson plan using ideas and activities presented in the course material and each time, my tutor gave feedback that conflicted with the lessons. When I confronted him about this, he told me that he was unaware of what was presented in the course and he has many years of experience, so just do what he says. For example, in the production phase of the PPP lesson plan, he said that no writing is allowed, yet in more than one video from the course, a writing activity was conducted. Or a debate in a production phase was also not accepted for an assignment lesson plan. Feedback for submitted assignments was often copied and pasted and the same. While I feel, I could perhaps tutor a student on grammar, I do not feel equipped to teach an actual English course following the TEFL Org program. I am glad that I was able to purchase the course for 50 per cent off and I am glad that I have the certification, but I would feel much better if I felt confident using my certification.”

“Really interesting course and invaluable skills. It makes teaching fun for both the teacher and students, using different techniques to get the students interested. Thoroughly enjoyed, but wish I’d completed the course after reading instead of making notes along the way; I should have realised you could just download the documents after. Making notes slowed me down and I had to pay for an extension. This is my own fault though - so a tip for those considering the course, download the notes after!!”

“As a working dad, I loved the convenience of this course. I could study when I had a free hour or two, but also received real-time feedback from an actual human tutor in a timely manner. It was a great hybrid experience in this regard. The modules themselves are well-paced and interesting, with a ton of practical guidance for using what you've studied in an actual classroom or online/telephone lesson. I am looking for applying what I learned in front of a classroom.”
