“First half very good - Vic Falls, Chobe, Kariba. Second half disappointing - NO birds in the Nata bird sanctuary - a big reason for going and the lousy roads damaged my neck so unable to do final day game drive. Long road travel an issue - disproportionate amount of driving versus activities. Needs a re-think. Air to Kariba good but seemed to use least convenient airports. Nice group, great driver, OK guide. This is an all purpose review page - returns?? Nonsense.”

We are so sorry that your trip did not meet your expectations. As our first ever 3* review we wanted to investigate a little further before replying. The roads in Africa can be a little bumpy and our group tours by road do require a sense of adventure as they can cover long distances, which is why they represent such value compared to our fly-in safari tours. We try our best to highlight the amount of travel wherever possible in the day by day itinerary and we are sorry you did not feel this was clear enough. The flight to Kariba was added at the last minute (at no additional cost) because the roads were damaged due to bad weather, and I can confirm that the nearest domestic airport was used in this case. With regards to the Nata Bird Sanctuary, we have checked our records and cannot see that this was ever highlighted as the reason for your trip, as we would absolutely not have recommended this tour to you, especially at this time of year. The visit to the Sanctuary is actually never guaranteed on this tour and this is noted in your itinerary as follows: “Please note a visit to the pans is subject to the road conditions and water levels as well as time constraints”. The rains were sadly not as expected over the last year and this means the pans are drier than usual so the birds will not always be there, and this is not something we can control given the wild nature of these parks. We were surprised to hear about your injured neck as we received no reports of this, and having checked with our partners on the ground and your guide specifically, they too confirmed that they were not notified at all about your neck injury. We hope it is feeling better now and would advise that you always let your guide know in the future, as some seats can be less bumpy on game drives than others which may have made this a little easier for you if you were in pain. The reviews site is a general page that allows any and all comments about the service we give, the fantastic accommodations and people you meet along the way, and your overall trip experience, rather than tour specific reviews, as we find this allows people more freedom in their review without being restrictive to certain questions. We are glad you enjoyed the first half of the trip and had a nice group, driver and guide, and can only assume that the accommodations and the rest of the wildlife were great as you have not mentioned any issues with these.
