I was looking for a pre-loved iPhone 12 and the deals on Smartcellular looked good, with prominent banners on the website claiming “premium next day delivery”. I ordered a “pristine” handset which is defined as “The body may have very light scratches, barely visible. The screen will have no scratches.” I quickly received an email confirming my order, with promise of an update when my order was despatched. After no follow-up for a couple of days (it was Easter) I tried to contact Customer Services. A automated email response advises that they endeavour to reply within two days, so I tried calling the phone line. Over a number of days I called seven times without ever getting through. The live online chat is slightly better but even this requires significant patience, with time from initial enquiry to getting some form of response typically being around an hour. I finally received my phone a week later. There is a significant chunk from the top right hand corner of the body and the screen has at least one visible scratch. I immediately contacted Smartcellular requesting a partial refund as the phone meets their “excellent” rather than “pristine” grading. I’ve had no response and no refund five days later. In summary, my new phone is great (it’s a premium product manufactured by Apple) but my experience of Smartcellular is poor.

The ordering process was straight forward and the item arrived in the described condition. Phone only had a very minor scratch (2mm) on metal around rear camera lens which will have no impact on photos and can only be seen when looking very closely. For those that may be interested the battery health was 88% upon receipt for a “Pristine” condition phone. Only negative was the delivery time wasn’t as advertised but it still didn’t take too long. Order evening of 28th March, arrived afternoon of Saturday 6th April - so just over a week.

Hi Still no sim card tray for the Samsung phone sent to me without a sim card tray. I have sent them 6 emails about the missing sim card tray still nothing done, what use is a phone without a sim card tray. Use this company at your peril

Do not use this company, it might be tempting due to their pricing, but their communication, website security & account reconciliation is appalling. In October, I made an online purchase with PayPal, the transaction was unsuccessful so I tried again with my credit card. No order number generated, 10 days later, both transactions of £425 had been taken from my accounts. There is no sign of receiving a phone. Frankie in customer services is useless, constantly stating there is no order, I’m nearly £900 down with no phone. Cut a long story short, eventually I get a phone, admittedly not the colour I ordered, I make a dispute on my credit card. In January smart cherry chase me for payment, despite me showing the PayPal receipts of payment. Now in April they want to take to the small claims court, because they are unable to reconcile their accounts to find my payment via PayPal for the phone. I have no idea how this company trades, it’s disgusting.
