Having done a lot of internet research into the over 50s Insurance I found many would not deal with the Isle of Man. It was with great pleasure to have found the Shepherds Friendly who made the whole process very easy and precise. So as the others I researched were some of the biggest in the industry it is great that Shepherds can provide a service that far outways the Giants. It was a bit like David and Goliath where David won. Well done Shepherds friendly team from start to finish.

I had this recommended through Emma's diary. I have opened up an account for my two you gest children as I already have another for my other children. I would have opened am account with this group if I had known. It was east to set up, very quick, easy to keep check on AND you don't have to put money in straight away which was much easier. I would highly recommend. I'm very happy.

Ambiguous /poor communication about whether the account has opened or not, both via email and over the phone even the box below this doesn’t allow me to say that I communicated with you both by email AND by phone because the email was ambiguous and the phone call was a pfaff too because the person I spoke with o was “new”. Also you sent me a text message, without warning me a few days after I submitted my application for your savings product, asking me to download an app which I never agreed to and it could have been a scam. Your phone rep had never heard of the app and had to ask a supervisor about it. I think that’s a silly way to do things because it’s time wasting and alarming

Everything was great until I needed to make a claim. “95% of claims paid out”. Can’t wait for that response. Apparently having to stop working due to the stress of having a baby fighting cancer and needing bone marrow transplant isn’t a valid reason to go off sick despite the support of medical professionals agreeing I’m not fit for work. What more valid reason for being off with stress could there be than having a child who has been given such a bleak prognosis. How can any parent be deemed fit to work in a high pressure job in this situation? Absolutely disgusted by the treatment I have received. And no, I haven’t went through the complaints process, I haven’t the mental capacity and what is the point?

Very straightforward process to open my over 50s Plan. Staff were very helpful when I had a question regarding the start date of direct debits The return rate on my pay out is a little higher than rival companies for a smaller monthly payment. I would recommend SF for this type of plan (over 50s).

This plan exists to support members who are unable to work due to illness or injury, where terms are met. We understand that this cover is important to our members and we do pay the large majority of claims; in fact, we have paid 95.2% of claims over the past five years. We treat each claim fairly, on an individual basis and, on occasion, we are unable to help. Having recently signed up for income protection insurance, all my interactions have been positive and helpful. A bit slow to reply to general queries (6+ days) on the main account, but all other departments (underwriting etc) come back pretty quickly. So far, so good.

Terrible service. Took over a month to get my money out. Would not accept a digital bank certificate of account instead of legacy paper statement. They are operating in the past.

I joined Shepherds Friendly via a cashback site and this significantly boosted my return on investment as a percentage of the amount invested. This is just as well, as I have found that my first year bonus was incredibly low. So would I recommend Shepherds Friendly? Yes in so much as you are joining a mutual organisation run for the benefit of its members rather than shareholders - I like that principle. Yes, in so much as they offer an ethical fund option for their ISA, the Sustainable Stocks & Shares ISA. Yes in that the way your plan is managed means it appears likely to remain fairly stable in terms of value - smoothing out the stock market devaluations. But with that, you need to realise that it seems unlikely you will ever see big bonuses paid compared to investing in many alternative stock market funds which are often much more risky but also can be more rewarding. The old advice of lower risk and volatility to your plan value equals lower potential reward rings true here. So this is an investment that could be viewed as much less volatile than many so that will attract some of you reading this. If you can get a cashback welcome bonus you create the effect of boosting your return, at least for that first year of saving. Customer service is friendly and helpful. Website is nice and clear and easy to use. Worth considering if all of the above information resonates to be of value to you.
