I engaged Redmans to review a legal document relating to employment. Overall the service provided was very good. However I felt that two areas could be improved. Firstly the fee provided by my employer would have covered a higher seniority of solicitor than the one I requested, and in that scenario I feel that Redmans should automatically assign the most senior available solicitor that the fee would cover. Secondly I hoped for more in depth advice on my situation than was provided, with some of that advice left unsaid to be inferred by me from what was actually said. I would recommend Redmans for employment related issues.

Chloe Holmes was very helpful, she guided me through my redundancy agreement until a satisfactory outcome was agreed with my employer. I would definitely recommend Redmans Solicitors if you need help with employment law.

I used Redmans’ services while going through a redundancy at work. I was told that a round of negotiations was included within the initial fixed fee, so I expected to receive meaningful advice and support when it came to negotiating my package. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel that the extensive information I provided about my circumstances was really used to inform the negotiation. I was understandably made aware that asking for an enhanced package could carry the risk of my employer withdrawing the offer altogether. While I appreciate that this was an important legal point to make, the advice left me feeling more fearful about negotiating rather than supported in understanding what would be reasonable to ask for. I also wasn’t given any meaningful guidance on what additional compensation might reasonably be worth in light of my circumstances, or what would be an appropriate amount to request. As this was my first experience of redundancy and settlement negotiations, I was relying on my solicitor to provide that expertise and reassurance. Ultimately, I felt that the one round of negotiation effectively sat with me. I requested a relatively small additional amount, which my employer agreed to, but in hindsight I feel I could have approached the negotiation differently had I received more advice and support from my solicitor. I’m not suggesting a higher settlement would have been guaranteed, but I do feel I should have been better equipped to make an informed decision about what to ask for. Overall, I came away feeling that I had to navigate a complicated and unfamiliar process largely on my own, which was disappointing given that I had engaged a solicitor specifically for their expertise and support.

I cannot speak highly enough of Chloe Holmes and the exceptional legal advice, support and understanding she provided throughout an extremely stressful employment-related negotiations matter. My situation caused me a great deal of stress and anxiety, and I found it particularly difficult to deal with. Despite this, Chloe was always incredibly patient and compassionate, taking the time to explain complicated legal issues clearly, answer my many questions, and help me understand the options, risks and implications of the decisions I was facing. Her advice was practical, very thorough and tailored to my individual circumstances. She guided me carefully through the process and helped me achieve a significantly better outcome than I believe I would have achieved without her advice, expertise and persistence. I particularly appreciated that she went above and beyond by making additional time to speak with me by telephone, which I found much easier, and always made me feel that my concerns were being taken seriously. I am extremely grateful for everything she did for me during this very difficult time. In my experience, Chloe combines excellent legal advice and professionalism with genuine compassion and a determined commitment to achieving the best possible outcome for her client. Her support made a significant difference to my overall experience. I could not recommend Chloe Holmes and Redman’s Solicitors any more highly to anyone facing a difficult employment situation like mine. She provided outstanding legal support throughout, and I could not have asked for better support or representation.

Title: Lack of strategic support and significant procedural errors I cannot recommend Redmans Solicitors following my recent experience. While initially helpful, the relationship broke down due to a fundamental lack of proactive support when my case became complex. My primary reason for ending my retainer was the firm’s refusal to provide strategic advice regarding the interference of a third party in my case, despite the impact it had on my settlement position. I felt that I was expected to lower my expectations without the firm being willing to challenge the outside conduct that was undermining my claim. I have lost time, energy and a lot of money waiting for strategic advice that I was not given. In an already stressful situation, my mental health was not well during those days. When seeking external advice, worried I have solicitors that do not advocate for me, I was told the advice received by Redmans was weak, which made me decide to end the retainer. Furthermore, the attention to detail was severely lacking. Most concerningly, I was accidentally sent a confidential settlement offer belonging to a completely different client—a major data protection failure that destroyed my confidence in their professional standards. In addition, I encountered several billing errors that I had to audit and dispute myself. I was even billed for research regarding a regulatory body (the BSB) without receiving any actionable advice on it. I also had to correct my lawyer's spelling errors (it can happen, but being referred to as "our client - him / he..." in a document I paid for made it look like it was not drafted for me, but copy-and-pasted from somewhere else). What was very painful for me was when we were under a lot of time pressure to respond as critical statutory deadlines for my ET1 claim approached, my solicitor did not want to respond to my emails before making a further payment. We had just spoken the evening before, and during that call she said I needed to pay another £1,200, which I did. The next day (!!), she sent me another invoice, making it look like she did not manage the time at all. I just lost time. I contacted Chris (the Partner), as I wanted to make sure he keeps an eye on it—particularly because of billing errors and emails I should not have received—to make sure she is fully focused and professional, and to express how much I was struggling due to receiving no strategic advice. That call was also fully billed. Within two weeks, I almost doubled the money spent on my case—mostly on internal communication within Redmans, calls that provided no actionable legal advice, and drafting emails that were not in line with what I requested. It is okay to suggest something different to me, but I would expect this to be explained to me before something completely new is drafted. If you have a straightforward case, they may be sufficient. But for anyone facing a complex or high-stakes dispute where you need a solicitor to truly advocate for you, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Redmans, namely Ms Harris, handled my case throughout its entirety with clear and precise instructions and provided clarity on everything during my time of stress. Each step and consequence was clearly outlined both over the phone and over e-mail, the attention to detail was superb and everything was put at ease. I was very happy with the service and support provided.

My experience with Redmans Solicitors was extremely disappointing and left me feeling that I received very poor value for the almost £2,000 I paid. I was quoted 3–4 hours for the work yet was charged for the full four hours from the outset. I was then instructed to make my own amendments to the draft letters using track changes in a Word document because the solicitor needed to clearly identify my edits. Despite effectively doing much of the drafting work myself, I was subsequently charged an additional hour on the basis that "substantive amendments" were required. I found this wholly unjustified. The draft correspondence also referred to me as "he", despite the firm being fully aware I am female following my initial consultation. This basic error gave me little confidence that the documents had been properly reviewed before being sent to me. To make matters worse, I felt pressured into paying further fees before my letters would be released, despite needing them sent urgently that day. Even after making payment, I had to chase the firms practice manager to confirm receipt so that the solicitor would finally send the correspondence. Overall, I came away feeling that my difficult circumstances were used to maximise billable time rather than provide an efficient, professional service. In hindsight, I genuinely believe I would have been better off handling the matter myself and keeping the £2,000. I saw no meaningful benefit from instructing your firm and lost confidence in the service entirely.
