I was lucky enough to travel to South Africa to do the horseback conservation programme. In this time I saw rhino, zebra, various species of antelope and birds. The journey over was as smooth as could be when travelling alone and being picked up from the airport was a massive bonus!! The people are some of the nicest people I've ever met and were incredibly welcoming and had amazing local knowledge and make you feel like one of the clan in no time at all :)

Just back from South Africa and I can honestly say I had the best 2 weeks of my life! What a beautiful country! Did so much in 2 weeks! Going on safari and seeing the Big 5, volunteering at the reserve, shark diving, bungee jumping, walking with cheetahs, exploring the jungles of the Tsitsikamma National Park, Hiking, exploring the Cango Caves, taking a trip up table mountain and visiting so many different places on the garden route! It was amazing! Met so many good friends and the Rangers and guides over there are all hilarious!

Can be done far cheaper by sorting things out yourself, but if you're looking for convenience it was great! The Spanish teaching was fantastic. My home stay family didn't speak any English but that made it even better for the learning, totally immersive. Bags of free time to do anything else you like in the area.

Absolutely amazing trip. The Thailand experience helped me learn about Thai culture and I made so many amazing friends, many of which I am still very very close with. Complete trip of a life time. I wish everyone could be informed about you guys and your trips. The tour guides are amazing too, definitely not how you imagine normal tour guides...they were even better than that. I was very poorly half way through the trip and Ben (one of the guides) took me to hospital and looked after me so well, which was amazing especially because when you're ill and away from home all you want to do is be at home. Everything that you get to do and get to be involved in is truly amazing too, especially for the price you pay. If you were to organise a trip like this yourself I know for a fact you wouldn't of been as well looked after as I was with this trip. The only tiny thing I would say as a downfall is the first accommodation you stay in at Bangkok...only because of the few cockroaches running around (but in the end they just became a part of the trip I guess) and the bathroom is tiny. BUT it all makes up for it when you get to places like Koh Phangan. Amazing trip, amazing people and an amazing feeling of safety too. If I could do it all again I would in a heartbeat.

We're sorry to hear you were poorly during the trip and hope you've recovered okay. Our guide Ben is fantastic, and we're really happy he looked after you so well during the trip and your visit to hospital. Although I enjoyed the site seeing aspects of the trip and the yoga classes, this trip is unfortunately not worth the money at all. I was expecting the accommodation to be basic, but it was poor. The sheets were not clean when I moved to my shared room, the bins were not emptied regularly which is not good as you have to put toilet paper there not the toilet and the bathroom was filthy. There were cockroaches in the bathroom and our room. Also the water didn't always work so you couldn't always take a shower. I was excited to try the traditional Indonesian food in the canteen which they do offer, but people on the program got food poisoning regularly and had to see a doctor so I ended up having to eat out a lot which makes the trip more expensive. The coordinators in Penestanan were very friendly but had poor English. This didn't bother me most of the time at all but it only became a problem when I was trying to book a taxi to the airport. They told me a taxi was booked but it didn't show up. I called the office and they couldn't understand me at all and hung up the phone, when I called back they didn't answer. The activities planned are good, but honestly if you are planning to go to Bali you can book these excursions so much cheaper yourself so I would recommend that. The plus points were that I met some lovely people, I was just disappointed that the trip was not worth the money.

SO easy to book and always someone at the end of the phone to help which was very useful. But did struggle a little when I got there as was not made aware of the name of company or person who would collect me at the multiple stops along the journey. The volunteering first week for really good, but second week we barely achieved anything. The person in charge was too relaxed and we always left way too late with no plan in hand until arrival whereby it was already half way into the schools day. But everything else was fabulous.

The overall experience was good but i was very disappointed with the accommodation offered. The bungallow was 10m from the beach but that was the only good thing about it. It was old, sheets had holes in them and seemed overused..no colour left in them. There were a lot of ants so i had to buy a bug spray to kill them. It only had a fan, no aircon. There was a small private bathroom with cold water only. No perimeter for the shower either so the water would go everywhere. Toilet seat was disgusting and had to cover it. The mosquito bed net was in a horrible state and i didn't dare to touch it. I would have rather not have it at all. Windows had nets so that stopped mosquitos from coming in. Wifi was barely working. You could get aircon, brand new bungallows with 1k baht a night and it would have been cheaper to pay for everything separately. The scuba shop was amazing on the other hand which made my experience better. Dealing with the staff at Realgap was a pleasure. I would definitely choose RealGap for another trip but I'll have to double check on the accommodation, that wasn't very pleasant.

This trip is grossly overpriced. Activities that are claimed to be included (and you believe you have already paid for) in your itinerary are not actually included and the optional activity prices in the itinerary are significantly less than what you are actually charged. In no way is this trip value for money. If I had done this as a solo traveller I estimate it to cost £750-800 all in, which is about £400 less than I paid, not including spending money on top. I didn't buy many things becuause I'm travelling for another 2 months and didn't want to carry things. I loved China, the culture and people. If you are thinking about backpacking in China, do it as a solo traveller. It's totally safe, there is minimal crime and I felt at ease the whole time when mooching around by myself. I would not recommend the Dragon Trip if you are on a budget!!

Hi Jenny, Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad that you enjoyed your time in China. It really is a beautiful country with fantastic culture and people! We were surprised to hear that you felt dissatisfied with the cost of the trip. While we appreciate that you could travel solo more cheaply, our trip organises everything for you and includes a dedicated tour guide, the support of an in-country team, a 24-hour emergency support line in the U.K., as well as other services such as financial protection that secures your trip payments. We find that our travellers value this support and peace of mind when visiting a country where they are far from home and don’t speak the language. With regards to your comment about the optional activities, we have reviewed our information and found that it clearly states that optional activities are not included in the cost of the trip. We are currently reviewing these extra costs to ensure that they are up to date. Thank you again for your comments and we hope you enjoy the rest of your travels! Real Gap Experience

Great to see the animals, we were well looked after by the staff at Kwantu while in country, and we were also given our own time to go and explore the rest of South Africa. A fantastic trip.

It was an excellent experience mostly because I met a lot of great people. I felt that the work I did was really worthwhile and it wasn't anything like some of the stories I've read about trips where the volunteers don't have the necessary skills so they end up doing more harm than good. I went for seven weeks which was enough time to get to know my co-workers and the family whose house we were building. So I would definitely recommend going for as long as possible. I would also recommend leaving maybe a week or two before or after the trip if you can, so you can do a bit of travelling. Because I didn't do this, I could only travel at the weekends so I wasn't able to go very far. I still had some fun weekend trips though.

Thanks for your review Jonathan, it's great to read that you had such a brilliant time in Costa Rica. It's essential for us to make sure volunteers feel they have contributed and made a difference during their trip, and it certainly sounds like you did during the 7 weeks - Good job!

Amazing over all experience! The 21 days were jam packed with activities and site seeing. We also had plenty of free time in the evenings and during our time Sihanoukville which meant we do things independently or as a group. If you weren't sure what to do in your free time the guides dimong (Didi) and Annette offered lots of ideas and were so much fun to be around. My group were so friendly and sociable and we all got on really well, Iv'e stayed in contact with most of them and plan to see them again soon :) The group had 18-26 year old's which was a great mix and Cambodia's people were so friendly too. Loved Seeing Angkor wat, the Silver palaces and the killing fields, it was so interesting and gave you an insite into cambodia's history. I also loved building a new house for a Cambodian family and visiting the New hope school, however felt slightly uncomfortable receiving a certificate at the end. When we were in Sihanoukville my group went to Koh Rong and swam with the luminescent Plankton! In retrospect i should have stayed in Cambodia for an extra week after the tour so i could have gone to Kam Pot so i would recommend that to anyone who is planning to go. During the tour there were some issues with our coach transfers- breaking down on route to battambang and Sihanoukville! However this was very unlucky and no ones fault. We made the best of every bad situation and turned it into something positive! the only criticism was some small details on the itinerary weren't true- for example you don't see the sunset at Angkor Wat. Overall brilliant experience and if you like to party Cambodia has lots of night life to offer!

Nothing can compare to the magic of the temples!! The ancient cities of Cambodia are incredible and truly a day I will never forget, I would advise anyone to go to the quieter temples so you can be alone with the history and the tourists can detract from it but that is unavoidable. The whole trip was completely made by the two guides we had (Annette and Dimong.) I can't speak for the other guides in times past but I honestly felt like our trip would not have been the same without these two. Two friends for life. They were always on the ball and every aspect of the trip was turned to 11 because of these two. Dimong's knowledge of the country was incredible and he is incredible fun and Annette was so re-assuring all the time and also incredibly fun and chilled. They have friends/family in the country and they made us all feel like part of their friendship group from the first moment and I look forward to seeing them again in my life.
