“I was given a subscription to Rare Birds Book Club as a Christmas present and it is undoubtedly one of the best presents that I have ever received. I love reading, but I often dither between books and chose titles I think that I feel I 'should' read, flicking between books and with several on the go at once, destined never to be finished. I haven't had that problem with the titles I received from Rare Birds so far: 'The Girl with the Louding Voice' and 'Kim Ji-young, Born 1982' were both compelling reads. I particularly love that Rare Birds choses stories and narratives that might be less familiar to readers. I was totally swept up in the stories of both protagonists and spurred on to explore more about the different cultures that these heroines depict. Once my gift subscription runs out, I will definitely renew! Thank you Rare Birds!”

Its been lively to choose a book, which I might not otherwise thought of reading, and look forward to it popping through the letterbox. The books are beautifully packaged and so far, I haven't been disappointed. The discussion thread is also an added bonus - to read and have the opportunity to contribute to a discussion on books I have read is just lovely.”

“I was gifted a membership and was horrified that the cost of it was revealed in the setting up process. The donor would be rather upset that I now know their gift value. And now I know the cost per month, I can honestly say that it is not worth it - I’d far rather have a book token to the same value that I could use to get some of the newer books that are out. So far the book choices have not been inspiring, and I could have bought two of them in my local supermarket at £5 each. The books do arrive beautifully wrapped, along with a naff and unnecessary card bookmark.”
