Hi David Although it was an unbranded USB memory stick, The damage to the circuit board was further complicated by some over enthusiastic soldering prior to its arrival with us. We were successful with a direct read of the NAND chips, but some of the recovered data was corrupted - 81.87% integrity 123.5MB is relatively low but the data needed was recovered. Glad it was a success R3 Data Recovery For those reading this, be sure not to take any chances with your data, our ability to recover data is well known, but if data is compromised during the failure

Unfortunately I was disappointed with the service. It was very expensive too. After receiving a file from R3 that contained a list of my various file names, I was led to believe that they were all recovered from my corrupted hard-drive. But this was not the case and I didn't receive any information about this. I have lost a few years worth of family photos and my entire CD collection.

? Dear Paul, I am sorry you felt disappointed with a service which extended considerable effort, resources and determination from its engineers to help you. The issue here is your Seagate 1.5TB drive was in a much worse state than anticipated. Despite a rebuild it was only possible to get 7GB of files and at only 75% quality which you accepted. We do offer to do more rebuilds in order to improve the image but you declined this. If you would like us to try to improve the results we do offer an escalation service which is used on seriously damaged or contaminated drives, such as those affected by floods or drops or knocks or declared unrecoverable by others. We cannot offer a discount on subsequent rebuilds and donors, it is matter of fact, time and donors costs money, it is your data to put a value on and we are unable to subsidise what is complex work which requires considerable investment to do. We do our best every month and work extremely hard to deliver on the companies remit to give the very best chances of recovery at a reasonable cost for as many of our clients as it is possible for the lab to handle. The fact is we have we are one of the largest data recovery labs with the resources necessary to deliver a recovery under the worst of situations. We just cannot do it at a loss otherwise we go out of business.
I needed an external hard-drive recovering, following a power surge. A call to Andy on the Saturday afternoon was greeted with a pleasant re-assuring voice that they would do everything they could to retrieve my data. My disc was duly sent off (even though Andy had offered a collection service) and the following day they acknowledged receipt. I'd not asked for an express service, so was pleasantly suprised to be told the next day that my data had been rescued, complete with a file list and an invoice. The Invoice was duly paid and I received a new external hard drive with all my data on the Friday morning, less than 5 working days turn round, and two of those in transit. Fantastic Service, but sorry guys, I hope I don't have to use you again - I'm now backing up my back-up and keeping them in different places. Rest assured though, if I (or any colleagues) need a data recovery service, we'll be on the phone to you.

Hi Paul Thank you for the review, and fortunately the power surge in your case had not affected the heads or motor of your 1tb Seagate ST1000DM003. Better still your by ensuring the drive was not interfered with we were able to quickly solve the PCB faults and make a full recovery without loss of any files or data.

My experience with R3 was simply amazing. I managed to fry my personal hard disk drive full of my young families photos and videos. R3 saved the day and I was amazed at how much they were able to recover. Virtually everything that was important to me was returned. My hard-drive was collected, the data was recovered and returned most promptly. In that regard the service was excellent. The downside is the price - £340, which is a lot. But this was similar or equal to quotes obtained from other companies. I would also have appreciated an explanation of what was broken on my hard-drive.

Hi Stephanie Your drive had suffered a head crash at some point in its life due to a power fault, it affected its ability to initialise and read the main data areas. Fortunately after inspecting the platters and heads we were able to effect a recovery of 99.88% - 386.7GB cost effectively. You were very fortunate that these 1TB WD10EADS-00M2B0 are quite resilient.

R3 were very responsive with their support. The hard drive was collected promptly and the data thankfully recovered and returned on alternative media. Their online links allow yo to review retrievable data and gave me peace of mind that important data had been saved. Lesson learnt- backup facilities now in place !!

Hi David Although this was a Samsung branded drive, it was a Seagate ST1000LM024 with 4 heads, 3 of which were working ok , the 4th was very weak, but R3 engineers were able to effect a full recovery without the need of a rebuild or donors, thus saving time and cost for you. Glad we could be of service and thank you for the review.
Like so many, I delayed setting up an automatic back-up. The worst happened, the two hard-discs crashed so my computer was dead. The hard-disc configuration meant that data was stored on both so it seemed likely that if just one disc was dead, recovery from the other was likely to be corrupted. I sent both discs to R3 Data Recovery - selected virtually at random but also because they had a local collection point - I wanted to avoid the risk of sending the discs through the post. A very quick turn-round produced everything I thought had been lost forever. Yes it cost me an external hard-disc for them to store and send me the data, and a not-small sum for the service, but now I have everything from my old broken computer up and running. I have bought a new computer. I have installed a new hard-disc in the old computer. I use the external hard disc from R3 Data Recovery for backing-up my new computer and another external hard disc for backing-up the old one. (My son keeps on at me about 'the cloud' but I like things I can see and feel in my hand.) I have learned an expensive lesson but have the data including photographs, documents and music I so nearly lost through being careless. I hope I don't ever need the services of R3 Data Recovery again but if I do I am confident that they will provide a good quality, quick service.

Andy and his team did outstanding work recovering thousands of photographs from an external hard drive with a faulty connector. It was a lifesaver for my daughter who is a professional photographer. Other companies had either tried, but failed, to recover the data or wanted stupid amounts of money to even try. Andy and his team were confident that they could succeed...and they did! From the telephone call within an hour of making contact via the website I was impressed by the level of information and service throughout. My concern was to recover photographs but having been in business at a time when much of our work was on computer with deadlines to meet and serious consequences for failure to comply I can fully appreciate what an asset it must be to have your company to hand to collect, retrieve and deliver back in such a short time. Hi Lee Glad we could be of service with your Samsung HM100UX laptop drive recovery. Fortunately although affected by some bad sectors, all 6 heads were able to read all sectors with some adjustments - as a result a 100% recovery. This is worth noting since these were the last of the true Samsung 1TB 2.5" drives, the replacement Seagate equivalent tend to fail more catastrophically and although we have techniques to recover them, they more likely to have a small amount of file damage .
A very worrying development when our hard disc crashed suddenly. R3 Data Recovery Ltd recovered all the data. Our software programmer was also able to repair any broken links. Now the recovered data is even better than it was before the crash!

Hi Mohammed, This is one of those cases which shows how reliable hard drives are. This 20GB Seagate ST320414A had been working 7 days per week for over 10 years until a power outage. Whilst a power outage would likely affect any storage device including an equivalent sized SSD - solid state memory has yet to prove itself able to not only survive long term intensive read writes, but also are generally more likely to be corrupted or unrecoverable when affected by power surges.

Hi Pauline, this was indeed an interesting case, your particular Seagate ST31000528AS 1TB had degraded and despite best efforts to recover all sectors belonging to the data area some data was unrecovered but it was still 99.91% of the 336.2GB of data that was recovered. This saved the need to do a rebuild as originally envisaged and saved you any unnecessary cost.
