Hi Graham, unfortunately, there are no direct substitutes for glyphosate products that are as effective but still cheaper... “Excellent stuff! After many years of horse tail or mares hair or whatever it is called, I'm slowly winning the battle with the help of Progreen kurtail weed control! It just keeps finding new places to pop up to escape its inevitable demise, which is annoying. But it's definitely dead as soon as you spray progreen on it.”

“As it can take up to 3 years to completely kill this weed (Horses Tail) it is difficult to give a definitive review. So far the results are promising. 2 weeks after the first application the aboveground portion of the weed is dead. However, if you break off the stem you find it is still green inside. It will be interesting to see what regrowth there is, both this year and next. I conclude that this will take several applications over at least two years. But I have to say that results so far are promising and as expected. Application itself is not a complicated procedure as long as precautions are followed.”
