“Minouche Olga, by Sylvia Natterer [613409] Olga is my third Minouche, and I feel she merits a longer-than-usual review because of all the extras that she comes with. Her price tag is considerably more than the other Minouches and potential purchasers will be asking themselves whether the various extras do really make it worthwhile paying the extra £30. First the doll herself: the Natterer Minouche quality is well-known, and this girl is well up to standard. A ginger-haired charmer with sage-green eyes, she’s a real Autumn girl and really needs the colours of that season to show her to best advantage. I was surprised to find that her striking head of hair was over-conditioned and felt greasy on arrival, but this was easily remedied by a careful wash in baby shampoo. I have no regrets whatsoever in acquiring this lovely doll who looks particularly pretty when redressed in Minouche Samira’s meet outfit – the green is an exact match for her eyes! Now her clothes: she comes with a cold-weather outfit of grey print dress, a winter-white jacket, hat and muff, tights, and grey ugg-style boots. Under these she wears the usual white body-suit. Her second outfit is for summer days, consisting of a cotton dress in a green, pink and red print with a shirred bodice and tie straps, some white panties, a pair of gorgeous pink shoes with white polka-dots, and a straw hat. All these garments are nicely made from quality fabrics, although personally I feel that autumn shades would suit Olga better. The only real disappointment is the straw hat which, frustratingly, is too small to fit on her head properly. Finally there’s the travelling box in which she is supplied. This is a very sturdy case in a turquoise and grey polka-dot finish. The two halves are held together with silver metal hinges and a silver clip fastening. Inside, wearing her grey dress, Olga travels in one half of the box, held securely in place with pink ribbons around her neck and ankles. The other half of the box holds her extra clothes, the jacket and muff on a neat little hanger that is suspended from a metal ring at the top, the other items slipped into a pink pouch at the bottom. It’s all quite well-thought-out and there is plenty of room for more items to be held here if she were to be going away for the weekend. Once packed in there with her various items of clothing, the case is clipped shut and the two pink cord handles at the top of the case allow her to be carried away safely in an upright position. So is all this worth the extra £30? It seems to me that £30 for an extra Natterer outfit, shoes, hat and a durable travelling case, is good value when compared with the usual retail price of a Natterer outfit at c. £25. The clothes fit other 13-14” dolls too. The hat, as I mentioned above, is the real disappointment. Why go to all the trouble of providing a pretty hat if it then doesn’t fit the doll it’s intended for? For this reason alone the set loses one star from its rating. Setting this aside, if you want a very attractive doll with two lovely outfits in a durable travelling case, then this is the set for you. And if you happen to have one of the Vestida de Azul Carlota dolls with a close-cut hairstyle, you’ll find the straw hat will fit them instead!”

“Soy Tu Amor Doll [06086 Africa] This is a truly lovely doll. She is very sturdily made in vanilla-scented vinyl with just five simple joints. Her body is similar in size to the Kidz 'n' Cats and Hannah, and she can wear some of their clothes although they can be a little long on her. Her little face is charming and full of character, while her outfit is beautifully made and it is easy to dress and undress her. She comes in a very well-designed box that can double as a carry case as it has a handle. She is held in place by just two bands looped around the in-box fixtures, one around her neck and the other around one leg. She is super-easy to unbox and any other 16-18" doll can be popped into the box and secured in the same way for easy transport. I was initially slightly worried by her hair which is roughly layered and seemed very difficult to brush, but after an overnight soak with braid spray and a careful wash with baby shampoo and cream conditioner, it is now smooth, shiny and manageable. Excellent quality. I love this doll!”

“Soy Tu Audrey Doll [06062] Audrey is a lovely addition to the Soy Tu range from Paola Reina. The new head sculpt is quite realistic and very appealing - she's particularly cute in half profile. The quality, both of the doll and of her outfit, is very good indeed. This is a gorgeous doll, full of character, at a very reasonable price,. Highly recommended.”

“WeGirls Angel [LU005] A very attractive doll with rich chestnut-coloured hair, a warm smile and soft and squeezable vinyl body. This one's a bit out of the ordinary, and I'm sure little girls will love her for her wide smile and hands that reach out to you. Her clothing is of a good quality, and I recognise the shoes are by Sophia's. Feet are Gotz Hannah size, so larger than American Girl, and in fact she is quite similar in build to Hannah so no doubt they can share clothes.”

“Minouche Jeanne, by Sylvia Natterer [613403] Jeanne is my second Minouche and just as delightful as the first. Her quality is excellent: beautiful vinyl, great hair, charming facial painting. She also has a very well-made outfit. The little coat is really superb, and underneath she wears a pretty dress in dusty summer colours. The little shoes are perhaps not quite as good quality but very acceptable. Her colouring is similar to Finouche Alice's, and she could quite easily be Alice's little sister or cousin.”

“Limited Edition Raven by Dianna Effner Oh, Raven, such a beautiful girl and superb quality. Her face is very natural-looking with delicate pink blushing, gorgeous golden eyes (like Tanya's) and the vinyl is excellent, with a matt texture. Perhaps because of the darker-coloured vinyl, her legs don't seem as spindly as Maru's. Raven's wig is very good quality and although I'd have preferred a more textured wig as on the original Raven, her hair does look great and the two little plaits are a nice touch. The dress is not to my taste but it's nicely made (and easy to remove!). The sandals are very well-made and the hat is perfect! I've seen some lovely dolls recently but Raven really is in a class of her own and I'm delighted with my purchase.”

“Paris Lounge Set For 18" Dolls [D197] What a great set of furniture this is. The hardwood frames are sturdy and well-made, and the hot pink polka-dot cushions are deep and comfortable (not that I've tried them myself!) and set off by two contrasting scatter cushions. I'm slightly puzzled that the table rests on a cushion base... but it works, somehow. The table lamp is simply lamp-shaped painted wood, both base and shade, so very sturdy for play. Great as a photographic prop, the whole set, and just what I've been looking for.”

“Gotz Doll Classic Kidz Vroni [1266011] Vroni is a lovely doll, essentially the same body and face as a Gotz Happy Kidz but with a very complex and beautiful hairstyle and an outstanding set of clothes. I particularly love the 'boned' bodice and the very pretty sprigged apron with matching bows for her French plaits. Usually I like to redress my dolls but, certainly for now, Vroni's staying in her own very special dirndl outfit - and no, I won't be messing with her stunning hairstyle either!”

“Gotz Hannah at the Ballet (African Doll) [1159850] African Hannah is my absolute favourite doll, a real beauty, far lovelier than she appears in her stock publicity photos. She has the Gotz quality, of course, so very fine vinyl in a pink-toned brown, and all facial blush delicately applied to her sweet face. Gotz really have hit the jackpot with this face which has a very complex expression: innocent, enquiring, a little melancholy, wide-eyed and thoughtful... very appealing indeed. Her hair is pleasingly textured, not the full afro curl, but distinctly crimped. It can be styled, but don't over-brush it. She has the same two outfits as the other 'Hannah-at-the-Ballet' dolls, of the usual Gotz quality so not a lot to say here except that the sandals provided are excellent with thick soles and really do help her to stand securely. I love her to bits and she's the queen of my black doll collection!”

“Lion T-Shirt [B7-t-46] Such a great t-shirt! Normally I make all my dolls' clothes but I had to have this because I can't produce anything like this striking garment with the amazing lion printed on the front. This is a well-made shirt fastening all down the back with velcro. Maru is wearing it at the moment, but there's a queue of other girlz waiting for their turn... Can we have one with a black leopard next? And a cougar? And then maybe a cheetah?”

“Fur Cat 15cm Style 1 [TY4945-1] Bravo Maxine for finding this lovely natural-looking cat - very sturdy cobby build with nice features and tabby fur. My only criticism is that the tail is a touch too short - but that's just quibbling and I'm not marking it down for such a tiny fault. This little cat has settled in happy with my doll family.”

“Style Me! - Floral Boots 27cm [3402651] Good quality, pretty Gotz booties. I got them in hopes they'd fit some of my smaller dolls and they do just fit the Natterer Minouches, so I'm very happy. Vestida de Azul Carlota can wear them too.”

“Fur Cat 15cm Style 2 [TY4945-2] Such a lovely ginger tabby-and-white cat, a very good size for the 18" dolls. Like the other two cats of this type, its tail is a bit short, but nevertheless it's a very attractive creature with soft fur and realistic features. It stands very securely on strong legs. A real character!”

“Little African Carolta is such a sweet girl, full of character. Like her larger cousin African Paulina, she has wonderful soft curly hair, and an appealing expression. Her swimsuit is well made from very attractive fabric, and the little gauze skirt is a nice touch. She stands up nicely, and is a good addition to my growing collection of black dolls. Worth every penny of her very reasonable price.”

“I have purchased 18 items now from My Doll Best Friend Ltd, and have been impressed with the personal service I have gotten. There were a couple of issues with construction on 3 of the garments I received, and I immediately sent photos and explained the problems in an email. I had a prompt response and an offer of some credit towards future purchases to compensate me for the imperfections. That made more sense than trying to send things back for replacements, as I am in the US, and they are in UK, meaning quite a bit of time and postage involved. While I would rather have had perfect merchandise in the first place, I was able to repair most of the issues with time and patience and my sewing skills, so all was not lost. Any time I have contacted the store with questions about the fit of certain items for my particular doll, I have always gotten a prompt, helpful, personal response. I am very happy with my overall experience buying from this store. They have the best selection of dolls and clothes that I have been able to find online.”
