“I've used Halfords for about 4 years for MOT & annual serving. I never felt ripped off, they completely had my trust, & I therefore became a loyal customer & openly recommended them. A few months ago I needed a new fly wheel/clutch thingy (the mechanics of cars are clearly NOT my thing).
This was diagnosed at Halfords, who provided me with a quote. I was about the give the go-ahead but decided to make a call to at least one other company for a comparison quote because it was going to cost me something in the region of £1500 (I can't fully remember but it wasn't far off that figure). That's when I called Mr Clutch. The price difference was huge! So much so that that I thought it was too good to be true. I carried out the necessary checks re work guarantees etc, & came to the conclusion that I'd be daft not to get the works done at Mr Clutch. I even asked Halfords if they could price match - they couldn't come anywhere near. I think the price difference was at least £500.
Mr Clutch carried out the works, & nearly 3000 miles later, so far so good. The guy who dealt with my initial enquiry & made the booking was brilliant, & when I put the car in, who I dealt with then was also great. Never underestimate good customer service!
I recently returned to have my annual service & MOT carried out. The reason I went to Mr Clutch was, to be honest, because they were cheaper than Halfords (about £40 I think). Again, the guy I dealt with was great.
I have to go a bit out of my way to go to Mr Clutch but so far it has been worth it. Halfords may have permanently lost my custom ....& I recommended 6 friends/family to that particular Halfords so their custom may also be lost as I've already started singing the praises of Mr Clutch :-)”
