My 14 year old VW Polo, in very good condition, was valued £ 1920 online after I uploaded photos. I then had to photo and list any scratches / dents - only two minor scrapes and one tiny dent. Following a phone call they dropped the price to £1220 - as these minor repairs, plus a minimal amount of dirt on the alloy wheels, would cost a garage £700! One of Motorway’s boasts is that they do not ‘ nibble ‘ away at the initial valuation like other companies! Did not use them.

Started process but then they mixed up my address, wasted 4 days on what should be a simple process but still no listing. Any claims that this is the easy way to sell you car is lies

Hi Adam, Thanks for your review. Sorry that you were unhappy with your experience. Looking at your profile, it seems your address did not register on our system or google maps because it was a new build estate with a very recently created postcode. We used the nearest approximate post-code instead, and noted in our collection notes the correct post-code for the car. It looks like we subsequently closed the sale down as you were unhappy with the reserve price rather than anything to do with the address, but if you would like to provide further feedback, or are in fact interested in pursuing a sale after all, please contact us on 020 3988 3388 or reviews@motorway.co.uk. Best regards, James Sales Support Team Senior
Trying to sell a 20 year old car in relatively good condition for its age. The initial valuation was nearly £800 but after review they reduced it to almost half that. Ridiculous on a car of that age and value. Will not use again.

Hello, Thanks for your review. Sorry you were unhappy with your valuation. Motorway doesn't purchase your car directly, but assists in marketing your vehicle to dealerships across the UK to secure your best offer. Our estimated valuation is designed to predict what dealerships are likely to pay for your car when sold, and is based on industry guide prices, live market data, and our previous sales history. When you speak with our sales team, they will take account of the specificities of your vehicle, such as condition, service history, and specification, to provide a bespoke valuation. This isn't done to reduce your offer, but to give an indication of what dealers may pay, and isn't a cap on what you can recieve - cars are entered into a daily auction in which buyers bid competitively, so offers do sometimes exceed the valuation. We set this expectation with you up front, so that you can decide if selling via Motorway is right for you before doing so. It sounds like in your case, it may be worthwhile exploring other avenues of sale, but if you don't have any luck, our door of course remains open. We wish you all the best going forward. Best regards, James Sales Support Team Senior
Got to speak to some one who just seems to interested getting the price below or equal to scrap value. looking for any excuse to take money of anything and everything. saying the price offered was over £,2100 less than webuyany. Had asked for a manager or supervisor to call back been over 2hrs and still no response

Hello, Thanks for your review. I'm sorry that you weren't happy with the valuation process for your vehicle. As we don't purchase the car directly, but advertise to a network of UK dealerships, we need to take into account the specificities of your vehicle to provide a bespoke quote. Your initial valuation is based on industry guide prices, live market data, and our previous sales history, and aims to predict what buyers are likely pay for your car. The limitation of this clearly, is that based on registration and mileage alone, we can only provide a generic valuation for your car. In order to ensure your estimate is as accurate as possible before you decide to go ahead, our sales team will discuss the specificities of your vehicle including specification, history, and condition in order to provide a bespoke valuation which is tailored to your individual vehicle. This does not necessarily entail any reduction in price depending on the condition of the vehicle, but it is best that we take into account anything that may affect your price ahead of time, and make you aware of those factors. This is not to say that buyers will not pay more, but that this is what we expect them to pay. We will look into calling you again today, as I understand attempts have been made prior to your most recent engagement with us. You can also contact us on 020 3988 3388 or reviews@motorway.co.uk. Best regards, James Sales Support Team Senior
Just spent three weeks jumping through hoops. Only to be told (after accepting car for auction in writing) That they cannot sell my car as it has been purchased privately within the last 6 months. Even though I can supply the details (verified) for previous owner.

Hi Paul, Thanks for your review. Sorry that you were unhappy with your experience. Having run a test valuation on your car, when you submit a valuation with us, the first page of our online form asks you if you have proof of purchase - this is presented for any vehicle owned for less than 6 months. You are obligated to select this option before you can proceed to submit any details or speak to our sales team, so you will have clicked yes to this question in the first stage of your enquiry. Your sales agent should have also requested proof of purchase during your calls with them however, and I appreciate it will have been very frustrating that this was only requested later in the day when our quality assurance team identified this had not been requested. We will follow up with your agent and are currently reviewing the webform to see if we need to make anything clearer regarding the tick box for proof of purchase, as we don't want to waste any of your time or ours on a sale we can't pursue. The reason that we ask for proof of purchase in the form of a dealership invoice if you have owned a car for less than six months is because these vehicles carry a higher risk of being problematic cars that private sellers or rogue traders are trying to dispose of via platforms such as ours. Our dealers simply will not purchase privately purchased vehicles owned for less than 6 months due to this risk, so we are unable to market them. I'm sorry for the inconvenience you will have experienced, and if you'd like to provide any further feedback, please contact us on 020 3988 3388 or reviews@motorway.co.uk. For an alternative avenue of sale, you can also try our partner The Car Buying Group on 0333 3201 614. Best regards, James Sales Support Team Senior
Advertised the van i had on there website, claiming they have over 3000 dealers in there network and not one single intrest, kept pushing webuyanyvan. Would not recommend to anyone. Communication been very poor

Hi Barry, Thanks for your review. Sorry that your vehicle didn't receive any offers. It is rare that a vehicle secures no offers, but can happen if there is limited interest within the network for your vehicle. In these cases we may suggested alternative avenues of sale so that you're not left without any further options in the event we can't find a buyer for the vehicle. In the vast majority of cases vehicles receive several offers, but as we advertise your car to a network of UK delaerships, this does depend on there being interest within the network for your make and model, with the specific condition, history, and specification of your individual vehicle. If things don't work out elsewhere, you're welcome to try us again in future to see if the market has shifted in your favour. Best regards, James Sales Support Team Senior
Don't deal with middlemen. I sell my car the good old fashioned way, that way I get the money I want for my car.

Hello, Thanks for your review. You are welcome to sell your car in any way you like, and where any customer would like more money for their car than we are offering, we advise exploring alternative avenues. If these don't work out, anyone is of course free to try us again later. Motorway is set up for people who want a fast, hassle-free way of selling their car. They can do this from their own home, secure an offer, and have the vehicle collected from their doorstep. Although this isn't the method everyone would prefer to use, for many people it saves time, avoids tyre kicking, and allows them to secure a great price for their car. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours. Best regards, James Sales Support Team Senior
The best price they said - full service history. Immaculate car, £5,558.00 was the best price. My car is now on the market for £8,390.00 Sick to the stomach !!!!! Disgusted utterly!!!! What customer service had to chase them every day!!!

Hi Vanessa, Thanks for your review. Sorry that you weren't happy with the final offer you received. Motorway connects you with dealerships across the UK, so the prices we offer are the trade price of your vehicle, not the retail price. Dealership retail prices include collection costs and fees, forecourt and staffing overheads, and help to cover the warranty and servicing packages dealerships offer with their cars. The retail price is also often inflated by dealerships to account for negotiation with any potential buyers. This substantially reduces the apparent margin by the time the car is sold. If you have any feedback regarding the service you recieved, please contact us on 020 3988 3388 or salessupport@motorway.co.uk. Best regards, James Sales Support Team Senior
Waste of time. Was given an online offer for my car which I was happy with (over £100k). I was then told to send in pics and other information. I later find out that Motorway list the car for sale on theirs site for dealers to bid on. They rang me to say they could only offer £92k, which I reluctantly accepted. Their online valuation was higher just to get people to list their cars. The dealer contacted me to arrange collection, they wanted to take the car and get their accounts to send payment to the finance company the following day. I was not happy with this and the sale fell through. Sold the car to a main dealer who offered more. The car was even paid for before collection. Much better service than motorway.

Hello, Thanks for your review. Sorry you were unhappy with the final offer you received. It is made clear throughout our advertising that we market your car to UK dealerships, as this is one of the key unique selling points of our service. Motorway bases your valuation on industry guide prices, live market data, and our previous sales history to predict what buyers are likely to pay for your car. In the vast majority of cases, offers match or exceed the valuation, but in some cases may come out lower. This may be due to recent changes in the market, a lack of interest in the car, or other factors our valuations have not taken into account. Most of our buyers do pay instantly at the point of collection, but there are a small handful of major main dealership groups with longer payment timeframes. This usually has to do with the scale of the organisation, which uses an accounts department who make their payments in daily rounds. If the vehicle is collected after the cut off point, payments may be delayed slightly. I'm sorry things didn't work out with Motorway this time, but we are glad you secured an alternative offer for the car. We wish you all the best going forward. Best regards, James Sales Support Team Senior

No joined up thinking, no customer service, complete lack of customer contact. Waste of time!!

Total waste of time using these guys. They sent cowboys to view my car who claimed the car has damages! Complete lies! No damages at all! Totally unprofessional after making me wait 4 hours. Even worse customer service agents on the phone totally unhelpful! Be prepared for a lie in reply that the car was damaged as it certainly isn’t and happy to provide as many pics as possible to prove the car isn’t damaged and is as described!

I sold my car through motorway and had a really good experience, car sold quickly and for a good price. I then suggested that my husband sell his car through them and it couldn't have been worse. The car was originally valued at over £1,200 and then was reduced to £1,000. He received an offer of £875 which he reluctantly accepted only for the 'dodgy dealer' to come and look at the car and subsequently mislead my husband into accepting an offer of £600 by telling him it had numerous faults. And also paid him in cash (which I understand is illegal). Then the day after we saw the car for sale on the dealer website for £2,500. My husband has emailed motorway numerous times to get no response.

motorway the service is very easy to… motorway the service is very easy to use and i was very happy with the price quoted but the buyer Marshall Volvo Grantham wanted to collect the car from your home address and then provide you with a purchase invoice so you have a record of the transaction taking place. It will then be delivered to one of their branches by a fully insured driver. You will receive payment within 24 hours. give my 32k van to someone on the on the strength of a piece of paper saying we will pay you in 24 hours. not for me.

Very poor. Wasted 2days of my time then the dealer pulled out before coming out to see the car. They had offered me just over £36k which I accepted and we agreed a collection date, then their buyer miraculously disappeared the morning before collection was due. They then offered me £34k. Consumer beware - I certainly wouldn’t will not use again.

Hi David, I'm very sorry that you had this experience when selling your car. Unfortunately, the original bid was withdrawn by the dealership, which we will be looking into to. We subsequently attempted to find you a new buyer, but were unsuccessful in matching the bid placed by the previous dealership. I apologise once again for the time you wasted, and that we were not able to find you an equivalent bid despite our best efforts. We wish you the best of luck selling elsewhere, and all the best going forward. Kind regards, James Motorway Aftersales Team
Be aware of the salami slicing tactics. They sweeten the deal with good initial offers and clever wording. Then you get stuff like, oh we are sorry this is the best offer we have had, "the market is saturated for this make and model, the offer is only valid until tonight and some nonesense about budgets". When the same sentence is stressed exactly 5x in short call you know what time it is. Have to hand it to them, great way to make some money. This is NaaS (Negotiation As A Service). For that they receive 5 stars for selling the car 1.

My £3000 car very low genuine mileage , you offer £895 don’t think so, then you say I could get a better price elsewhere , so why you offer £895 , disgusting

Extreme pressure and endless phone calls, messages and emails, despite me explaining my unavailability due to work. Not leaving me think or discuss offers.

Hi, I was extremely sad to see your review. Once we have the highest offer for your car, it is presented to you. This is time sensitive, as the dealership has allocated funds to your car and we need to let them know within the working day. We do contact you via WhatsApp if you are not available on the phone which we have found people respond to when they are not available to talk. I hope this goes some way to explain our process. As you can see, the majority of our reviews are very positive so I apologise if you felt our service pressured you in any way. I am sorry we were unable to meet your expectations on this occasion. If you would like to discuss further then please do not hesitate to contact me. Kind regards Emma Aftersales Manager aftersales@motorway.co.uk
