“Amazing curry paste - high quality natural ingredients without all the sugar you find in supermarket versions. Bonus that they are vegetarian. This is the only brand of curry paste I buy.”

Hello Gary, thank you for taking the time to share your review with others, we always appreciate the time people take to give us feedback. It looks like we may have just missed the top accolade due to the fact that we have not included a non-vegan version, however, I would like to expand on this point because it is quite important to us. Our pastes are not vegan for the sake of being vegan, or an attempt to jump onto the proverbial bandwagon. Our paste are made from a traditional recipe and presented in a way that you will find in many Thai markets around my country. That is to say, just a blend of fresh herbs, spices and salt, and nothing more, i.e. No Shrimp paste, artificial additives. Shrimp paste is a pungent, strong aroma ingredient that is traditional in the making of Thai Curry, but it is normally added at the time of cooking, and not mixed in with the paste when sold at the market. We also believe that adding this ingredient with the fresh herbs and spices prior to packing will simply deteriorate the fragrance, aroma and taste of the natural fresh herbs. What we have, therefore, is a completely natural blend that happens to be suitable for vegans. We will never produce a product that is not authentic or traditional in its presentation and appearance, which is what we believe makes our products special. I hope this better explains why the pastes are as they are, and I hope you will enjoy them more with this in mind. You can, and should add Shrimp Paste (which is now much more freely available in the UK) and/or add some fish sauce to taste. However, the other advantage is that for some dishes, it is better with less or no shrimp paste, and that isn't possible when it has already been added. I hope this helps. My first one which I tried was the Penang curry and I must say the curry paste impressed me so much, it is by far one of the best Thai paste I have ever cooked with and I am a Thai Chef! I highly recommend people try this and I can’t wait to order some more!”

“Adore these Thai curry pastes. They have to be tried to be believed. We make the whole pack and my husband daughter and I can almost manage the lot, but we alway make sure there is enough for my lunch the next day. They are just scrummy 😋”

Thank you Mick for your comment, sorry it has taken a while to respond. I try to reply to as many reviews as I can. I never take it for granted that customers spare their time to review our products. Now, as for your "probably as good as you would get in a good restaurant"....... I hope it will be definitely as good as in any restaurant because it cannot get any more traditional. Although, I will concede that if the restaurant are making it fresh, then it will have an edge, as you cannot beat freshly made Thai Curry Paste if you can get the fresh ingredients and have the time to do it properly. Anyway, jesting to one side, we are pleased you are enjoying it. Jum

“Ever since I’ve tried Mae Jum’s curry pastes I’ve been in love! The textures and flavours are beautiful. The packaging is also very unique to other brands and there are cooking tips on the back and also indicates how hot each curry is. I love that they have a taster bundle which is perfect for anyone who wants to try a curry you’ve never had before. They’re even be perfect as gifts! I’ve only had positive experiences with Mae Jum’s and I would highly recommend.”

Thank you David for this review too. I am happy and relieved that you think it is better than many on supermarket shelves. I've been hand-making my paste for most of the 27 years I've living in the UK, and in all that time, I have not found a supermarket paste that did it for me. What you have tasted is as close as I can get it to the hand-made paste I have cooked my family for years. I now use my own paste packs most of the time. It saves me so much time. Jum
