I am generally very positive about your customer service. I’m disappointed this time that on my renewal the insurer had increased the premiums and then when I went through the trouble of sourcing a similar policy at a much lower price they then reduced their premium by nearly £100 or nearly 20%. In these days of transparency in business and consumer relations I’m troubled by a practice that seems to bump up prices and only competes with the market price if the customer complains.

Thank you for your feedback. Insurers consider several factors when calculating the renewal price. Indexation, an adverse claims history and the customer making a claim within the last 12 months will usually drive an increase, but there are other, more subjective factors as well. These include insurers’ views on the various risks associated with the insurance they are providing, such as changes in their overall claims experience for a given property type or a review of the severity of natural disasters occurring in a given postcode. Finally, we would like to confirm that renewals are not mandatory and we contact our customers in good time with an offer of price for the coming 12 months. This gives them the opportunity to consider our terms and to shop around if they feel we are not offering value for money.

Useful online application. Quick to respond to queries. Minimum of 50K buildings cover which is more than I needed. Premium for a timber chalet worth 40K is more than my 4 bed detached house worth 400K?!?

I was looking to insure our holiday home in Norfolk. The renewal premium seemed a little high,so I was searching on the Internet for a better premium. I4me came up on one of my searches, I partially completed the information required for a quote. I was contacted very promptly to see if there was a problem and the additional information was collected. The resulting premium was £100 cheaper than the renewal,with no loss of cover. Excellent result alround!

I haven't had a claim on my holiday home, and that is in 20 years, so I would have hoped not to have had a price rise of 16% this year i.e. paying for other people's claims.
