I tried to call to get some advice on a quote and after 12 minutes on the line was cut off, both bad points in my book, the main reason for trying to find a new company to cover us was the RAC very poor response times on the phone. Tried the live chat option, again this isn't really a live chat just away to get someone to email you back. Things turned around somewhat once I was talking to Alison Gorman via email, would have given at least a Good and possibly a Very good if I could get the information I needed, and clarification of some aspects of what you offer on your T&C's. The 2500kg was particularly confusing as ours like many camper vans is 3500kg. It should be made clear that panel van conversions are covered unto 3500KG, currently that is not clear. Ease of communication is very important to me as a customer, I hate having to go through lots of press this and press that options. I would like to speak to a REAL person asap.

Looks good so far. Bit early to see if a company is as good as you expect! Confused with the other choice (where one pays, and then claim back) Would like more info, as it mentions a claim limit in many places.

I have just taken out a policy with GEM and must say the ladies in the office were extremely helpful and were able to arrange cover for my vehicle. I hope that should I be unfortunate to have to seek breakdown cover that the service will be the same.

This is a review of how easy it was to join GEM. I have not actually started the policy yet. I had questions regarding what operator they use in my local area. I found them easy to contact and very helpful. Got back to me right away with a comprehensive answer. I also compared the level of service to other providers and found that the price for the Reclaim option is about half what others charge for same type of cover. So far so good. I hope if I need to call them out that the experience will be equally easy.

Was with GEM a few years ago. I only left as I got free breakdown cover with new cars. I now needed cover again so I went straight back to GEM. The service is first class. I spoke to a lady who was knowledgeable about the services and yet did it in a friendly and polite manner. Then best of all I found out that the cost was one pound CHEAPER than in 2011. Now that's great service.

All very easy and clear T&Cs. My only quibble is that I wanted to start the policy the following day, but that did not seem to be an option available when ordering on the website.

The ease of joining i can not comment on the call out situation as of now i have not needed to use that side yet and hopefully wont do lol

I was greeted by a pleasant agent on the phone who explained in great detail the pros and con of Gem membership, which made my decision to join easier, and the whole process took but a few minutes to carry out. As I have only been a member for no more than 24 hours, it is early days to make any further judgement, but based on yesterday's experience, it should be favourable

Not storing card details so no data security risk and no auto-renewal, and not automatically selecting Yes for signing up to marketing!
