As my husband had been a member for many years before his passing, and he had always been pleased with the service received from GEM, I decided that I would join this coming year. The reception I received was most helpful and courteous and I am happy to continue with this organisation in the future.

Very friendly efficient human beings at the end of the phone, which is always answered promptly. If the breakdown service is as good as the admin staff then it is win win!

Having been a wee bit apprehensive before the test I was more than happy during the test with the attention given by the assessor Mr Ian Dalling who indicated some minor problems, and giving guidance on where to correct them.

Can only comment on ease of joining GEM using online option (very good). I have not spoken, chatted or emailed with them. The acid test will be the standard of service if I breakdown and actually need them!!!

Before commencing the test I was most apprehensive with regards to what would be required and asked. However prior to starting the examiner Mr Ian Dalling put my mind at ease, and during and after the test any faults by me were highlighted discussed, allowing me to see that 'faults' that I took for granted were easily remedied and I have commenced doing so

This is just a review of the application process, as we will start our membership in 2 weeks. Joining was very simple and easy, just 2 levels of membership and cheaper than either AA or RAC. The online reviews of the service really sold it to us.

I phoned in and purchased by phone, they were very helpful on phone and super nice. My daughter recently used her own Gem full recovery home service back to my address, a long distance and the company didnt make any fuss about it etc. It was worth the extra cover just for that one occasion. Probably saved the car from shark garages or being scrapped. The clutch cable snapped and will cost around £17.00 from a well known website and myself fitting it for free. Its a 12 year old Picanto but too good to throw away. I've tried the other big names, but they are just not as good and charge a lot more.

Joining was simple. Clear options between Extra and Reclaim. Had cause to discuss options on the phone and the lady who I spoke to was extremely helpful. I haven't had cause to use the assistance service so can't rate that (and hopefully won't need to!).

Went with Gem based on internet reviews and motoring feedback. Price is a factor for me but not as important as service. Cannot comment on a breakdown as to date not had to use.
