When buying break down cover, for me you need to 1. Look at the whole package 2. Check consumer and magazine reviews This is a good all round package, with honest up front and fair pricing. It makes a change and is refreshing to be with a company like this, rather than going with the "big guns" all the time. Give them a try.

I love the GEM service but do find it insulting that after approx 10 years of loyal membership I always pay more than new customers. I would be fickle and cancel and rejoin but too much hassle.

Very easy to negotiate the website, very good prices for the product, and very quick in responding after I had bought the product, the documents where there when they were supposed to, and it was very easy and quick to set up my account.

Had to wait longer than told originally, but service when arrived was excellent. Solved the problem and even followed us up the road to make sure everything was ok

Was a member 2 years ago and had to use them twice. They were there in under 45 min no problems. Decided to join again as great value. Day I joined, friends had break down and had to wait 4.5 hrs to get recovered by another company ( free with bank) , then they were told it didn't cover recovery so had to pay £148 to get recovered. So glad I went with GEM instead!!!

Well the reasonable cost of cover and the efficency in getting everything in place for a new customer has been impressive. I hope if I ever need their services I am equally impressed

I have only had to use the breakdown service once in the five years or so I have been with Gem. On that occasion someone was with me within the stated time and was able to diagnose the problem and do a temporary repair to enable me to get home. Nothing to fault in any way.

We have been members of GEM Motoring Assist for a few years and whenever we have needed them, they have provided an excellent service. When we broke down far away from home and needed different recovery vehicles to get us back, we were amazed at how smoothly the arrangements went and how the drivers genuinely cared about getting us home as quickly as possibly. We would definitely recommend them.

Fortunately I have never needed to use the breakdown cover but as I am the only driver in the family, to have the driver illness cover on my policy is real peace of mind. Whenever I have phoned head office the girls, ladies who answer the phone are always efficient polite Likewise Shield insurance staff with very efficient with competitive premium rates The Good motoring is an excellent read with a lot of interesting articles Sorry if this sounds twee I have never had a grumble with GEM Roger

Very pleased with the cover offered, but disappointed that new customers are offered a discount which isn't offered to existing customers who are renewing their breakdown cover.

When I was looking for breakdown cover, after looking at various offers in my price range, GEM was easily the best choice. For what you pay you get personal cover for any car you drive, which is great. Plus they have very good customer service and fast response. I think I called GEM three times last year and they always came and without fuss either fixed my car on the spot or took me to my house. Which I always appreciated, it is stressful enough to have your car unable to start so I was always happy GEM made it easy to get back on the road.
