About Gazegill Organics:

Our family have been farming at Gazegill for about 500 years and as current custodians our responsibility to continue farming in a sustainable and nature led way is very important. We have always believed that nature is never wrong and farming organically produces healthier food from happier animals within a sound ecological system. Happy, healthy animals make better food with a traditional flavour. The rare and traditional breeds that we keep are better suited to the organic system and are slowly grown, this ensures a longevity of life based around a natural approach to farming. We love them to bits, they are our extended family.

“Hello Gazegill You’ve asked for my review/opinion, so here it is. I’m a regular customer, I buy from you and two other organic food producers. I usually place one, sometimes two orders per week whilst I am in the country. I suppose it would help you, if you understand why I order some things from you and not everything. All the info below is genuine and sent in good faith. I tend to order the 2kg sirloin joint regularly because not many organic suppliers sell a 2kg joint of organic Sirloin. Others only seem to favour a 1kg joint, and the 2kg size suits me best and the price seems fair. It’s always delicious and only takes an hour in the oven, it’s a quick and beautiful looking dinner. I would probably also order a rib eye beef joint if you sold one. I used to order brisket from another organic supplier as I prefer the flat tip, and not the leaner roll, but as you have now started to do a flat brisket, and the point end typically has more fat which I enjoy, I now order from you. Fat is king for flavour in my world. Your offal burgers are wonderful, congrats to the butchery department on that. Best burgers in my opinion; just like they tasted in the 70’s. I believe it is beneficial to get offal into my family’s diet, and these burgers are a very easy way to do so. I’d suggest adding a spicy burger to the range (also containing the same ratio of offal as you currently do, but with a little heat in the seasoning). When I order flash-fry steaks (like minute steaks), I usually go for thinly sliced bavette/skirt. The open structure is preferred in our house. Unfortunately you don’t supply them this way as yet. I only cook in beef dripping, and wet render the fat from leaf suet. Yours has been sometimes clean, sometimes less so, and it’s been a little bit hit and miss. If I had more confidence in only having to cut away a smaller amount before I rendered it down, I’d also get that from you. I order chicken elsewhere, when I do I prefer it to be bone in, skin on, thighs, always organic, pasture raised, but not fed a diet of corn, which would raise inflammation in my family due to the chickens being mono-gastric (we also stopped eating Pork for a similar reason, and stick to poly-gastric ruminants). I used to love your shoulder of pork though.. With lamb, I order the large size shoulder of lamb, bone in, sometimes from you, sometimes not It depends on price, it also depends on which supplier leaves the fillet on the joint. I remove the neck fillet and throw into a bag in the freezer until I have plenty to make a Lancashire hotpot. I see it as a free bonus dinner. I only live a few miles away from you, and my orders are always above the free delivery amount. However, I would happily drive to collect the order from you if there was a benefit to me in doing so. I can see that you would save on the delivery cost, the box, woolly packaging and ice packs etc. It could be a win-win situation. We sometimes order tongue for our dog, but he also favours a ground up chicken carcass which we can only get elsewhere. If there is part of the animal that isn’t used nose-to-tail, I’d suggest offering it to those of us with a dog or two. We all love our dogs don’t we.. I’d like to temper my opinions with a congratulations for being an organic food provider, which I think is one of the most important jobs anyone could have in today’s society. “I love your products but I have taken out one star because I worry about microplastics. Some of the meat could come in a tray instead of in vac packs so glued to the meat, I read this: Vacuum-packing food products prevents the growth of aerobic bacteria and therefore extends shelf life without having to add preservatives. This is great but microplastics will be in the products. Many thanks for the excellent service and the excellent products your farm provides to your customers.”
