I set up a child ISA 12 years ago with Friendly Foresters and am extremely happy with their service, ethics and performance. They are a company that gives back rather than focusing on profit for themselves and I’m always surprised when they send a £10/£15 gift card or cheque for no real reason other than to be lovely. As a result I have set up other savings accounts with them (and received M&S vouchers as a result). The discretionary bonuses alone make their plans a no brainer compared to saving with a bank. All in all, very happy

Foresters Friendly Society had good write-ups and appeared to be well liked amongst investors. So I thought I'd look into it a bit further. All very positive and I ended up selecting a stocks and shares ISA for a long term investment. Well pleased so far. Good service, keep you informed, etc. Looking forward to a good return in the long term.

The staff have been very friendly. I haven’t had to wait in queues on the telephone when I wanted to speak to them. The benefits are brilliant and far outweigh any current interest available nationally.

I've recommended so many of my friends to FF. I enjoy the fact that there are no shareholders and their customers receive all the profits. I enjoyed receiving the M&S gift card when I joined and the food hamper too. I always found your staff to be very friendly and knowledgeable. However, the reason for giving four stars is that you offered customers a £40 gift card if they topped up their account with £1,500 prior to 9th October. I paid £1,500 in two payments prior to your cut off date and was told that I'd only receive a £25 gift card! I complained that I found your letter regarding the offer to be ambiguous. Apart from that, I am happy being a FF customer.

I havr attended 1 meeting and found all friendly Janet Clements our secretary came although she lives in Essex and came across as a strong and capable as well as friendlyl

There is no online portal so no way of knowing the value of my ISA from one month to the next (they told me they are “working on an online system”. The only way to check my balance is to make a phone call and wait on hold or leave a message for a call back. Apparently a statement is sent out once a year. It’s clearly not kept up with the times. This was sold as a stocks and shares ISA but in reality it is just a fund with an end of year bonus tied to it. Not at all what I would expect of a S&S ISA.

In the meantime, we are able to provide plan values over the phone and we send out annual statements regarding the plan’s value, plus half-yearly statements to ensure you are aware of how much of your annual ISA allowance you have used. If the lines are busy, as at times we experience high call volumes, we offer a call back facility in an attempt to support our members by ensuring you are not on hold for long periods of time which we know can cause frustration. Our ISA is classed as a stocks & shares ISA as the fund in which your money is invested invests in a mix of assets including property, equities, cash and UK government bonds, to help minimise risk and increase the potential for returns. Our in-house expert investment team, alongside our external investment managers, manage the fund on your behalf – and make all the investment choices for members. As the 7th largest UK mutual in terms of funds managed, we take a responsible approach to our investments, ensuring we act in a socially conscious way. Yes I found you very helpful in setting up my Tax Exempt savings plan. But at some point I had to cancel because I had hit my overdraft limit. but now you can resume taking the money out of my account. I think it is £10 per month if i remember correctly.
