Insured my son on his moped and moped wouldn't start when out so called recovery, they sent someone who didn't know about mopeds or how to load it onto transport - I had to show him how to use his vehicle! Called them for second time 5 months later and told I have to pay £125 as the same fault - the fault being it won't start!! No peace of mind with this company and will not be renewing !!

On 10th February I requested assistance from Emergency Assist It appeared to be the same fault I had incurred recently and I volunteered that information. I was then told ‘the small print’ states they would not respond (or charge me £125). The fault appeared to be a ‘dead battery’. I also pointed out that at the time of the last call out, as I recall, I was told there was no need to get the battery checked just go for a short drive to recharge. The battery is almost as new – well 2017 – but the car has only done around 18,000 miles i.e. not in my opinion or one of your contracted agent’s opinion, normally reason to consider a replacement battery. I was then told that ‘the call out ‘ staff are not responsible for giving advice. I pointed out these were the people that Emergency Assist ‘contracted’ to perform the call out and it would seem pointless to ignore their advice, about the car, to satisfy your small print. [If I was advised the car was dangerous to drive I wouldn't ignore that just to conform with the small print]. It would seem ‘stupid’ to think this should be ignored or need me to refer to the small print. I can confirm that to be cautious I did call into Kwik Fit locally and I explained the scenario and asked whether they could check the battery. I was, however, advised, at this point in time, they were unable to do so because they had not had training on any form of electric vehicle (my car is a self-charging Hybrid). I accept their statement ..but .. seemed a little unhelpful. Any explanation by Emergency Assist was treated with a polite ‘ go away ‘. The young lady was pleasant enough but unable to provide what I would consider a reasonable explanation and there was no other more senior person available. A truly dreadful experience and appears, in this case certainly, not to be a valid reason NOT to perform the task for which I purchased ‘break down cover’. I managed to find a retired mechanic who lived about 20 yards away so was up and running in no time. I subsequently went to Halfords who ran a test which gave a result (print out) “GOOD, RECHARGE”. I was suspicious had additional checks performed which showed the battery was not holding a charge. I got the battery replaced. All turned out well - but could have been so much worse - i.e. late at night on a motorway. I am well retired so could easily have been problematic and potentially dangerous. Just seems appalling behaviour and one that could put lives at risk.

To summarise, this company is a con. Get your insurance with AA, it is a bit more expensive but you will not be putting your money in the bin or find yourself in some desperate situation. If there were 0 stars, I'd give them 0

Had a tyre blow out on a very busy dual carriageway managed to limp to a lay-by. Phoned EA for assistance but they refused to attend unless I could provide a receipt for a battery that was fitted 11 months earlier. Provided said receipt from Halfords but they still wouldn’t attend unless it had car reg on it???. I explained on four occasions that Halfords don’t note car reg on receipts when fitting new batteries and if they did add one this moment in time would be fraudulent. All they would offer was for me to pay £125 for them to attend. As it was early evening on a Sunday had to pay for taxi to get home and pay for someone the following day to remove damaged tyre and fit spare skinny. Please steer clear of EA as they DO NOT Provide EMERGENCY COVER OR ASSISTANCE. I have cancelled my policy with EA and signed up with Green Flag

Like others the cover isn’t really the cover you think you’re getting. Broke down tonight and was told that onward journey cover meant I’d be stranded at a garage nowhere near my home and responsible for organising my travel from that remote garage myself. I could then apparently claim up to £40 back. Oh and I had to ring round the garages to find one that we could recover the car too. All in the cold, dark on my own. Sarky operatives too. Utterly awful! Avoid.

I’ve never used them, hence 4 stars, but I heard they are great. And today I contacted them to cancel an auto renew today. I was fairly sure I’d be penalised, but I was not. They were super helpful and have cancelled for me. I feel super grateful and happy.

Avoid at all costs - they gave loopholes all over their wording to ensure they don’t come out to you! Cancelling my policy as we speak!

Scam company with scam policies, avoid, avoid, avoid. Broke down on motorway -1 degrees outside, electrics failed. Managed to get off with police assistance. Contacted the company, took 6 minutes to answer. They asked the first fault I noticed and I advised it was that the heaters had stopped working and the windows were freezing up. I then advised vehicle now wouldn’t start. They refused to come out as the original fault was a faulty heater and the vehicle was still operational at that point. Absolute shisters, use a reputable company

Attempted to get vehicle recovered due to major oil leak and no oil in vehicle, refused recovery as vehicle was serviced 2 months ago and tried to suggest the audi service was result of the service - absolutely no idea how that can be the basis for a refused recovery just seems they’re looking for any excuse not to recover seems like a scam company AVOID

Would give a minus if possible. Broken down Boxing Day took long time to answer. Told them clutch had gone and I had a lady 85 and her dog with me.Also on a very busy road no footpath. After lots of questions and kept holding the line. She then told me they would not come out....because I’d called them Oct for flat battery and I wasn’t covered for that either! So unless I could show them I had been to a garage and that car was in good running order there would be a charge of £290 . I told them the police had pulled up to make sure recovery was available. One and half hours trying to stall the recovery for me. I had to use a recovery the police gave me when they came back to check we were ok. Seems they do this often looking at other reviews. There is a scam going on with this.....it was very frightening ? AVOID AVOID AVOID

I got a puncture on the evening of Tuesday 12 December and called for assistance after failing to remove the wheel nuts myself. The roadside assistance driver who was sent also could not remove the tyre. He did not even have a power assisted tool to remove the wheel nuts. It was later in the evening and the garage was closed with no street parking and I had to get home for my children. The driver said to call back in the morning to get taken to the garage. On calling back, I was told I had to pay a cancellation fee of £98 because I cancelled the call out. A second call to them increased the fee to £125!! As the policy has unlimited call outs, I fail to understand why I would have to pay a cancellation fee. Their driver was the one who failed in the simple task of removing the tyre. Another breakdown company came the next day, removed the tyre with the proper tool, replaced it with the spare and I was on my way. The breakdown service and customer service are not up to the standard they should be. It is true that you get what you pay for.

This is the worst Recovery Service available - don't touch them. They promise assistance and provide nothing. Twice we have needed them and they have failed to assist on both occasions - on one instance they left my wife and child (in scorching heat of Summer) without assistance for several hours; and would not reimburse when they had to make their own private arrangements after several hours if waiting - what a disgusting company.

The ryanair of breakdown companies. Charge you a reasonable price, then absolutely extort you with crazy add one and ridiculous contradictory t&c’s. Emergency Assist are by far the worst recovery company I have ever experienced. On my first encounter they told me that if they could not access the vehicle because another car was parked in front etc, not only would they not complete the recovery but they would actually charge £250. I have never heard of that from a recovery company and asked how does that work when you don’t choose where you break down. Their response was a very unhelpful ‘that’s just what it is’. This gives any driver the right to refuse your pickup and the company be paid additional. There seem to be a number of ways they will extort money unlike any other breakdown service. Unless your recovery is absolutely perfect for them (even though that’s no fault of your own) expect to be charged additional costs that you were not expecting. The worst one way today’s. After a 50 minute hold on a Monday morning, I called to say that my clutch had broken down which was a huge shame as it had done not too recently and I needed recovery. Despite the original recovery being less than a mile away, they told me today that because it had a similar issue less than 60 days ago I needed to send proof of the work done by the garage or they would charge me £270 for the recovery. At this point I genuinely lost all hope in this company as it’s clear they are nothing but a scam. No other breakdown service will ask you for this in my experience and do the job they’ve been paid for. I explained I would need to get this document and the woman told me she wouldn’t wait and I would have to call back, so another 50 mins or so. Luckily I got it over in time and I waited for recovery. But it gets worse… I then get a call from a gentleman 20 minutes later who then told me that despite what the woman told me previously, they would charge me for the breakdown. Even though they had just made me go through all old accounts and send this over, apparently I was told wrong. THEN, he told me the quote was £350 for the recovery, despite having already been quoted £270 and the garage being 5 miles away. I don’t know if the company is just this unorganised or if they genuinely make stuff up as they go along, but this process was absolutely absurd and shocking. Emergency assist are the most unhelpful and disgraceful breakdown service I have ever had the misfortune to have dealt with and will be doing everything I can do change my service. Avoid them like the plague, they give no care for their customers and constantly look for ways to extort with additional charges. They wasted two hours of my morning this morning with absurd technicalities and then had two different people tell me two different things about my cover and two different prices, both of which were absolutely absurd for a local recovery. I’ve since called a local one and they charged me just £150, but again a cost I didn’t expect to incur when you pay for recovery. Go with literally anyone else, RAC, AA, Green Flag, I’ve experienced all and never had the nonsense that I’ve experienced with this pitiful company.

They are absolute jokes! On 27th Jan 23 I had a call out, the issue was diagnosed / resolved by their call out people that were sent to me. In short the problem was the spare key was being used, but wasn't calibrated to the van properly. Simply using the main key fixed it. Great! or so you would think... However on 20th Oct a further breakdown occurred. They insisted on a invoice from a garage of proof that the problem from the call out in Jan was resolved. This was impossible as there was obvously no invoice or no works required from a garage to fix it!! and better still the issue was resolved by them theirselves! Further still it is common sense that 10 months later a 'non starting van' fault that has broken down again has been able to be fixed in any case and that the new claim issues aren't related which is what they say they said they need the proof for. However explaining all of this to them they still stubbornly insisted I produce an impossible to produce invoice! Or I could pay them £125 to come out! Infuriating! When I asked them to look into their call out notes from January, apparently they don't keep / know the outcome of call outs. Like what?! I was basically put in a position where unless I produced an impossible to produce invoice for a problem previously resolved by theirselves, or pay £125 for a non policy callout then I would not be able to receive the service / insurance that I pay annually for! The staff are stubborn and clearly lack common sense to enable that above sitiuation to be resolved. Do not use these jokers if you want actual cover for a breakdown. they may admittedly be cheap, but cheaps no good when they do everything to not fulfil their duty of service!
