“Good, but could do better … Went for an overnight break in July for my partner’s birthday. Generally good, but let down by some poor service. Positives: Beautiful location and architecture. Decor is palatial (as you might expect) and has the air of opulence. Rooms are roomy and airy (high ceilings). + Bathroom had large tub AND shower Spectacular view from room to the South over the forest and river. Food is high quality and service in dining room is adequate. Negatives: Reception has some great staff, and some not-so-great, “computer says no” staff. I was trying to organise a surprise spa massage for my partner and they managed to screw it up, then reveal the price in front of my partner without prompting. Thanks guys!!! Reception has NO umbrellas to borrow just to fetch stuff from your car when it’s torrential rain (as was the case during our visit). Basics are important. Service in The Stag’s Head Bar is very poor. We went for pre-dinner cocktails. The bar was quiet, but it still took 25 minutes to produce two simple cocktails. Next day, 30 minutes for two coffees (three staff and two customers in bar). Lavender Spa has no receptionist for long periods. Calling main reception didn’t help. This leaves customers wondering if they want any customers in the spa.”

“The voucher was a gift to us so we didn’t know its value when it came to booking. However, spoke to very helpful staff on the telephone who guided me through. Hotel booked - now looking forward to the break.”

Sorry for the confusion, we do accept international phone numbers on our booking form in the Daytime Telephone field. However, currently we are only able to send mobile booking confirmations to UK numbers, if you don't have one of these your confirmation will be sent via email. “Hi I’m getting in touch as we stayed at your lovely hotel. 13/07/24 for our 15th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed with our dinner reservation. You had a private 70th party going on, so we had to have our dinner in the lounge upstairs. The food was lovely but there was no atmosphere at all. We were Tucked away in the Corner. I was actually sat on a sofa. We was really looking forward to a lovely restaurant experience but instead it felt like we had dinner in our own lounge at home. If it was communicated to me that we would not be in the main restaurant that evening for dinner then I would not of paid the extra for our package to dine with you. We could have dined in the many restaurants close to the hotel which I wish we had done to celebrate our anniversary. Really disappointing. How ever the hotel it’s self was 10 out 10. Absolutely spotless, complimentary tray in the room was a lovely touch. The staff were some of the friendliest and happiest I’ve experienced. The breakfast was also 10/10 Location was out standing. Would 100% visit agin. If it wasn’t a special anniversary night away and that we traveled 90 mins to get to we wouldn’t be so disappointed. Sorry to complain. I never do so normally.
