“Travelled 120 miles to visit these guys and was not disappointed. Amazing service on the visit and communication before and after. Wanted to buy a ‘crossover’ kayak and 5 were bought out for me to test and study. So much patience and solid advice. Bought a Pyranha Fusion, spraydeck and paddle. Deck turned out to be too small and edges popped off cockpit- exchanged instantly by post and the guys even sent me videos of them trying alternative spraydecks so I could be sure the right choice was being made (remotely). Genuinely grateful for all their help and comms. Pricing is competitive and service is faultless. These companies are now few and far between in today’s faceless internet shopping experience. 100% score in all areas.”

“Canoe and Kayak give a fantastic and caring service, I was really impressed - Ben and Nigel both went out of their way to ensure I had ordered and received the right things! FedEx, on the other hand, were abysmal and let the side down completely. If I were Canoe & Kayak I would change my carrier!”

“This review is going to sound strange at first because it starts with taking something back to the store as I was able to get a better and cheaper item elsewhere - that's not the norm, it was just a quirk of availability. So I took it back to save posting but also to have a nosey around as I'm new to sea kayaking and, as much as online browsing is helpful, it's not the same as hands-on. It was late-ish on a Friday afternoon and Nigel was solo at the store. Neighbouring premises were closing up early, but Nigel took my return with no quibble, and then gave me his undivided attention for around 45 minutes to advise on drysuits and helmets, helping me to try without any pressure to buy. Two things were clear about Nigel, firstly, his knowledge and experience of kit, secondly, his enthusiasm in sharing that knowledge. There are online sellers that rightly get praise for speed and ease, but being able to turn up somewhere and get this kind of personal service is invaluable, particularly when still learning about the kit you might need. In the end I got my £70 refunded but I left spending nearly twice as much on quality gear - they didn't have the particular drysuit I was after but, following yet more helpful advice from Nigel, I got a Palm Tsangpo undersuit (size L, good fit) and a PeakUK river knife (simple, slim enough to stow in a PFD pocket and titanium parts for salty longevity). AND that undersuit got a discount that made it cheaper than a major online-only competitor.”

“I was trying out a kayak with the store and Nigel was really helpful, got on the water with me, and even brought an extra boat that I could try. He was also very helpful when I chose my helmet. I ended up buying the extra kayak! On a separate shop, I bought float bags and they wouldn't have one of them in store for a few months - but I was able to order it anyway, and it arrived just now. Overall a great service!”

“Purchased a Hou Prospector Canoe from the store as well as a number of items to make the canoe practical and safe. Collected myself from the conveniently located shop, just off the motorway. Had fantastic service from Richard and the team. So very pleased with the product. Been on the water for over 15hrs in total in the first couple of weeks and it has performed brilliantly. Solo paddled the Monmouth & Brecon Canal and several passers' bye commented on how good the canoe looked. Thank you so much to all at Canoe and Kayak Store.”

“I drove to the store because I had been there some years ago when I had been hoping to purchase a kayak and it is so much easier to be able to check the product and see exactly what you're getting rather than hoping for the best online. This extended to taking the kayak out to my car to check it fitted and I could lift it in and out! They are very knowledgeable and I learnt things about the paddle which I wouldn't have known or benefited from had I just picked a random one online. I have now been able to test it on the sea in Devon, which is my preferred paddle place. It performed well in quite difficult conditions and I am already saving on my drive/park/hire costs.”
