Camps international has so far been fantastic, very supportive with every step, informative and providing excellent events in the lead up to our expedition. Just finishing up on a training weekend, been so well looked after, team have been great and would definitely recommend to all thinking about embarking on a camps journey.

I had a great time on my Teacher Familiarisation Trip with Camps International. I really feel that the work that they do is making a real difference. Their philosophy is to empower local people rather than giving handouts which is really impressive. We could see the direct (and indirect) impact that their projects are creating on the villages. Some of their projects included building chicken coops for people to give them additional source of income, teaching English to local kids to improve their chances in tourism industry, helping refurbish the schools in the area etc. They have their sites set up in the village itself and employs local staff to run the camp site. They are a part of the village since they have been there for quite some time, so it helps interact with locals as well. I think the students would get a lot out of the trip with them by doing service for the community, understand a different culture and learn about the hardships they face in day to day life.

I’ve been on two expeditions before ( Peru 2019, Borneo 2022 ), but I’ve never been on a teacher Recce before. I absolutely loved loved my week out in Kenya in October. The staff that accompanied us were amazing, the Kenya camp’s team are superb and the camps we visited were fantastic. Whilst only there for a week, it was packed with so many activities ( a trek with bush skills, visiting a Massai tribe, visiting and trying project work and even a mini safari. The food in Kenya, I found, was so much better than in Borneo and Peru. The sites were excellent ( apart from staff accommodation being far too hot at one camp ). Really looking forward to the expedition next year now.

Please be aware this is for 14 - 18 year olds and they are grouped dependant of the expedition the school has selected and not by age. My son signed up to Impact in Cambodia with four other boys from his school who would all be 18 years at the time of travel. They had just finished their A’levels. Camps International put them with another group of 18 students who had just completed year 10. When I became aware of this in November 22, I contacted Camps International and asked if the boys could be transferred to a group similar to their age (we had already paid for half the trip) they said the groups had already been assigned. I asked for a refund and they refused this. We would not have signed up to the trip, if we new the other group would have been so young. Camps International came to the sixth form to talk about the expedition, not at any point did they speak about the age groups or is it in their literature or on their website. As it was a sixth form talk we assumed it would be with other sixth formers. My concerns that the group dynamics would be geared to the age of the majority. Camps International refused to acknowledge this. As they refused a refund, my son did go on the trip. He enjoyed the community work, however, the down time wasn’t what he had hoped for. Strict 9.00pm bedtimes, 18 year olds can regulate their own sleep, even if they have to be up at 6.00am. If you are a sixth former and want an adventure after leaving year 13. This is not the route to go down. My son left the group after 3 weeks and spent the remaining time exploring Cambodia and meeting other young adults.

Last January, I brought a group of 50 students from Vietnam to Cambodia for a 5-day community expedition at Camp Beng Melea. We had a wonderful experience from being picked up from the airport, being transferred to camp, made to feel incredibly welcome and well-cared for to being involved in meaningful and sustainable community projects. In particular, the Camp leader Han was amazing. His care, passion and friendliness made us all feel humbled, comfortable and inspired. All of the staff were amazing, and I'm looking forward to leading our next trip there in a couple of months.

The BEST experience ever. I got to know so many people that I didn’t really know before so better, connect with people who I’d been friends with before and just come together as basically one big family. The staff were amazing, I don’t think any of us from team Heridia could’ve asked for anything more. Will, our expedition Leader was absolutely brilliant at what he did and we’re all so glad we got him :). For me, it has made me mature as well. It’s made me realise the simplicity of life and how hard it can be for people who are less fortunate than us here in the UK. It’s helped me become more aware of my surroundings and engaging in more things that can help me in the future. As your motto states: it was an “Ethical Journey with (MASSIVE) Impact”. Thank you so much camps for giving me this experience, I know I will definitely cherish those 4 weeks forever. Thank you :) Noah :) (I don’t know what photos they mean so I’ve put some of my favourites that I took 😃) (Also they’re all pictures of nature due to me not being sure if other members of team Heridia would be ok with their photos being sent)

The trip was great and well organised. It was an amazing experience. What I didn't like was the lack of support to fundraising, I was sold an idea that there would be a lot of support from my school and camps international, unfortunately that was not the case and there was 0 support especially from our school.

My daughter thoroughly enjoyed her trip to Cambodia, which has created lifelong memories for her. The exposure the students received to life in Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge regime has already made an impact. It's these experiences that help shape young adults by providing a tangible understanding of human rights and guiding them on the right moral path.

I had an amazing time on my expedition and I would highly recommend going on one of these trips to anyone else with the opportunity to do so. All the camps staff were super friendly and helpful. It was an incredible experience and I enjoyed experiencing and learning about different cultures in Borneo as well as learning about Borneo itself. It was also satisfying to see the project work we had completed by the end of the stay in a particular camp and know that the local community would benefit from it. Camps international was really helpful in providing resources to help me prepare for the expedition. The pre-departure meeting was informative and a good opportunity to ask any final questions, especially about travel money. I didn't have to contact Camps International with concerns at all.

All was fine but if you need any suport about visa or immunisation you need to find everything alone and also once you paid the fees you have additional cost around £1000 to pay for immunisation, equipment etc.

Dear Nicola Thank you for providing additional information about your experience with Camps International. It's valuable to know that while the overall experience was positive you felt that you needed additional support with regards to applying for Visas and finding out more about on applicable Vaccinations for the expedition. While our Traveller Gateway has a lot of information with regards to where you are visiting, along with a handy map to take to your Travel nurse for latest guidance on vaccinations, it is feedback that we will take onboard to make sure that this information is easier to find within the expedition resources. We acknowledge that the visa application process can be frustrating, and it's important to note that the requirements and procedures may vary from one embassy to another. Due to these variations and individual circumstances, we may not always be able to offer specific guidance for every applicant. Our travel support team is however at the end of the phone to offer support to make this process as smooth as possible. We thank you for your valuable feedback. If there are any other recommendations you would like to share we would welcome hearing from you on operations@campsinternational.co.uk All the best The Camps Crew

Camps International expedition trek to Borneo with Impact which I embarked on in July 2023 was a life-changing experience and something I will never forget. It was so special experiencing the culture, climate and environment of Sabah, Borneo. The highlight of my journey was experiencing the cultures and taking part in the local community, with either project work or having the opportunity to engage with the children and locals. The setting and environment were beautiful in the Borneo jungle, with the river boat ride in the sunset. The journey had a significant impact on me that kick-started my career based on the passion I've always had for wildlife, conservation and preserving the environment. The experience of travelling across the globe has changed my life.
