“I traveled to Kenya for a month with Camps this year, and it was one of the most amazing, fulfilling experiences I’ve ever had. I’m 15 and started my fundraising journey when I was 13, so I can say first hand that it doesn’t matter how old you are or where you come from. Camps International are an amazing organisation, their staff here and abroad always made sure we were happy and safe, and made even the most challenging aspects of our trip enjoyable. I’ve had the amazing opportunity to sign up for another expedition with Camps, this time to Borneo, and I can’t wait. I would recommend these trips to anyone!”

“Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Camp Tsavo. We were made so welcome by everyone and felt like 'Camp Family'. Fiona, Peter and all the staff went out of their way to ensure we got the most from our experience and nothing was too much trouble for them. Their knowledge of the local people and area along with the Swahile lesson helped us feel very much at home and the food served up by Katone, Titus and the others ensured every day of our stay was very enjoyable. Alice is a great housekeeper, ensuring everywhere is clean and tidy. We noticed how appreciative the locals are for the support from Camps and we were so happy to be a very small part of it from the deworming of goats, making bricks and meeting the local women's group. The safari and visit to Maasai tribe were very enjoyable days. We look forward to making a return visit in the future. With much love and appreciation from the 'Mama & Papa' of our group.”

“Such an amazing trip, would 10000% recommend. Myself my husband and our two children went to camp Tsavo. The staff were so friendly & helpful, just the most loveliest people you will meet, the food was just the best, full of flavour, we never went hungry. The project work was amazing, going to the local school and getting stuck in with building work, helping local farmers with their livestock. The Maasai was just soo unbelievably moving and so interesting. I was most looking forward to safari, which was incredible, don’t get me wrong, but for me everything else like the Maasai, mumma mercy group, the local people, was the peak for me, and my family, we would definitely love to go back and do it all again one day, just to be able to go and see everyone again. My daughter especially loved Fiona and would love to go back just to see her. Kenya has definitely captured our hearts for ever, one that we will never forget, and forever talk about. Thank you Camps for everything you do, and continue to do.”

“Experiencing Camp Borneo in the summer of 2024 was one of the best experiences of my life. Not only did it allow me to see and experience a completely different culture and way of life, it educated me in ways to conserve and protect different environments. I had an amazing time and made lots of friends. Out camp leader, Lindley, was incredible and I can safely say I will never, ever forget this trip.”

“I had an amazing time in Tanzania for my expedition in July 2024. Camps International were very supportive, from the fundraising to the trip itself. I would definitely do this again if I had the chance. I have made friends for life and my confidence is so much better since I've come home.”

“Whilst my teenage son had a great experience on the whole; deepening skills, developing new ones, giving to others and gaining an understanding of the world, there were a few issues that concerned me. During their planned jungle trek, the guide became lost which added hours onto an already challenging trek. This resulted, apparently, in most of the kids crying and feeling scared. Resilience building, yes, but not the safest way to develop that skill. Additionally, when my partner and I first met the Camps International leader for the trip (at Newcastle airport, the start of the adventure) I was put off by his personality. He came across as self-centred, more interested in talking about himself than answering any of our questions. According to my son and his friends this behaviour continued during their month long trip in Borneo. To add to this, he displayed a misogynistic attitude, totally inappropriate on any level but especially so in front of teenagers. He exclaimed that he, “didn’t think women could do that”, when a female student stated that she helped her Dad with woodwork. The students were shocked by his behaviour and a teacher from their school ( Bedlington Academy, Northumberland) who had accompanied them, made a complaint. The leader denied any accountability so clearly there was no willingness to learn and grow on his side. Not a good role-model for helping teenagers learn and grow themselves. After the trip parents were E-mailed requesting more money for a certificate of attendance. We had already paid almost £4,500 ( not including the cost of kit, spending money and around £500 in vaccination costs ). This seemed ludicrous and as I could not afford to pay yet more, my son has no proof for the future that he has ever been and achieved such remarkable feats.”

Dear Parent, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review – we are pleased to hear that, on the whole, your son had a great expedition and learned lots of new skills in Borneo. All our Expedition Leaders go through a rigorous selection and training process before being carefully assigned to each expedition. They are thoroughly briefed on our expected standards of conduct and as such, whilst this feedback is hugely disappointing for us, it is very much valued and has been shared with our Senior Leadership Team. With regards to the jungle trek, we have reviewed the detailed daily report for the team from this date and have noted that our records differ from your account of events. We would be happy to schedule a call with you to discuss this further. We apologise for any miscommunication about certificates after the trip. We have resent your son’s Participation Certificate to your email address. All our travellers receive this certificate upon their return, free of charge, so we apologise if it was intercepted as junk mail. The Participation Certificate will be helpful as proof of your son's achievements with Camps for his future endeavours. While students have the option to purchase the ASDAN Universities Award, this is very much a personal choice. We would like to wish your son all the best and thank him for his contributions to our communities during his expedition. We hope that his experiences in Borneo, while challenging, inspires him to travel to other amazing countries in the future. All the best, The Camps Crew
