“I can't praise it highly enough. Right from initial enquiry re site of base and type of boat to final check out along with diesel usage & mooring, Black Prince was efficient, knowledgeable and experienced. I had full full confidence in them.”

“Family of five, mom and dad and thrrr teenage girls, had a fantastic time doing a week from Bradford on Avon to Bristol and back. Great fun, black prince were excellent. Lots of revision time for our girls for GCSEs and A level mocks intermingled with good pubs, walks and general boating fun on the locks etc. would definitely recommend”

“One of the best holidays I have ever made. Very friendly staff. They told us all we needed to know. The boat was in an excellent condition. Everything on board you need. Just go and have a bit of an adventure. But the most important: Enjoy to move slowly and relax.”

“Myself and a friend have recently completed the Mid Worcester Ring using a boat from Black Prince. I have nothing but praise for the help they gave in planning the trip (extra maps marked with stops etc), completing the paperwork and the hand over. All this was completed with friendly people who were happy to help with anything we needed. I wouldn’t have any hesitation in recommending them to people to use in the future.”

“Just returned from a week on the langollen canal with my mum, can honestly say it’s the best holiday I have ever been on and I didn’t want to come home, first time narrowboating for me, our boat “Penny” was beautiful and comfortable she was fully equipped with everything we needed,, the crew at Chirk marina were all very helpful lovely people, enjoyed every part of this experience and 100% recommend to anyone thinking about it to go for it because you won’t be disappointed, Karen and Mary x”

“A wonderful holiday although we were extremely lucky for the time of the year, everything was perfect. Two of the photos supplied of myself and my wife were both taken on the Oxford Canal 45 years apart all 3 of had a wonderful adventure, both times.”

“A very tidy modern boat, We felt the large sink with a bowl inside was pointlesss as was the small draining area. A shelf or similar would be ideal in the shower for sponges, soap etc. Note. We bought a 2nd hand boat from you (NB Moscovy 515250), had it for 12, more or less trouble free years. Very good quality boats overall.”

“Oh we had a wonderful time on our Black Prince narrow boat adventure. We came together as a family in a way we hadn’t before, we had lovely relaxing days and very enjoyable evenings as well as learning a new skill. It was a terrific experience.”

“The boat was spotless and the training provided at the start was great to help us navigate and get the feel of the vessel. I would recommend a short trip for your first attempt as it can be a bit more work than you expect. We found a crew of 3 very good for managing locks. Boat has everything you need on it and the recommendations of the staff were great.”

“My wife and I chose Black Prince for our 2nd ever narrowboat holiday. They had the configuration we wanted, from the location we wanted, and the price was in our budget. We got what we expected which was a clean boat in very good working order, exactly as advertised. The customer service was also very good. The people at Black Prince were not only responsive, but ahead of problems we had to manage. They made sure to ask us what our boating plans were and updated us on where we could expect problems and suggest alternative routes. We had wanted to do the Cheshire Ring but parts of it were closed. We knew weeks in advance to start planning for one of the alternatives they suggested, which ended up being Acton Bridge (Bartington Wharf) to Chester and back with a detour to Nantwich. But it gets better. On our travel to Manchester, the airline we used didn't send our bags along from London to Manchester. So when we got to the marina, Danny Coleman, our contact for that Black Prince location, gave us guidance on where to get clothing and food, relatively convenient to the Trent and Mersey, so we could jump right into our narrowboat holiday. It almost seems anticlimactic to mention that he gave us an excellent introduction to the boat and got us ready to operate the boat properly from stem to stern. In the mean time, Danny also made sure we could contact him via WhatsApp and he regularly checked in on us. He leant us books for navigation and planning that were with our luggage, and he made a heroic effort to get our bags to us when they finally arrived, driving over 30 minutes each way late at night to bring them to us. The final thing I'd like to mention about the boat is that our boat had 1 1/2 baths and the shower was relatively roomy (considering I'm almost 190cm and weigh about 17 stones) and also the toilets worked to perfection. Macerating toilets and a pump out system are a great choice for narrowboats. So if you're looking for a company for a narrowboat hire, I highly recommend Black Prince.”

“We loved our boat and want to buy one now! We would recommend this to anyone that enjoys nature and has a do it yourself attitude for adventure! We literally can’t stop talking about how much we loved it! If we lived in the UK then we would probably do this every year”

“Just returned home after a thoroughly relaxing holiday from Stock on Trent to Chester and return. We originally booked and planned for the Cheshire Ring but had to replan due to low water levels in the Peak Forrest Canal, and finally, a lock problem on the Macclesfield Canal closed the ring. With ample time (two weeks) for our return trip, we were able to stop and explore along the way without worrying much about time or any holdups.”

“Our first time on a narrowboat but it was a wonderful experience, even for our family of four total novices. Spent four nights, departing from Stoke-on-Trent down to Stone and back. Saw some wonderful scenery on the way and also managed a tour of the Wedgwood factory. The boat is well-equipped and though nearly 70 feet long is surprisingly maneuverable. As the nights got cooler we used the boat's central heating, which was very good. Highly recommend the Black Prince team especially Steve who gave us a very thorough demonstration at the beginning.”

“Myself (Graham) and my wife Annie along with our parrot Ruby have just completed a very relaxing fortnight on the boat Dusty from the Wigrams marina Napton. We have hired boats from Black Prince many times and I would like to praise the support we received from the team there. Ok – on this occasion we stupidly did manage to lock ourselves out of the boat one evening ! Yet both Keiron the call-out engineer AND the marina manager turned up to rescue us with great friendliness. It's that kind of support that takes the worry out of hiring boats from Black Prince and we hope to do so again and again. Thanks to all. “I have used Black Prince three times now, each time for a short four night break. The boats are clean, modern and maintained to a high standard of appearance, adequately furnished with a good kitchen, bathrooms, sleeping area and storage space. The staff are helpful and there is a 24 hour number if you have any problems with the boat. They offer good advice on choice of routes allowing you to spend as little or much time boating as you want.”
