"We recently had the pleasure of embarking on an unforgettable adventure with Black Prince Holidays, exploring the stunning Stourport Ring on one of their charming narrowboats. From the breathtaking views and the warmth of the people to the captivating scenery, every aspect of this experience left us in awe. We wholeheartedly recommend Black Prince Holidays to anyone seeking a remarkable holiday on the water. Whether we were cruising through the countryside, passing through quaint villages, mooring up for the night in Birmingham, or navigating impressive locks, the ever-changing scenery was amazing. But it was not just the captivating vistas that made this journey remarkable; it was the people we encountered along the way. Black Prince Holidays' team was exceptional, displaying genuine warmth and professionalism. From the moment we arrived, their attention to detail and commitment to ensuring our comfort and satisfaction were evident. They patiently guided us through the intricacies of navigating the narrowboat, providing us with all the necessary information and making sure we felt confident in our journey. The local community along the Stourport Ring also left an indelible mark on our journey. The friendly locals all greeted us with a smile and a pint. They all were happy to share fascinating stories and their pride in the area's history. From the idyllic Worcestershire countryside with its rolling hills and meandering rivers to the industrial heritage of the Black Country, each stretch of the canal offered a unique perspective on the region's rich tapestry. The architectural marvels of the cathedrals, canal bridges and tunnels, combined with the abundance of wildlife and charming waterside pubs, made every moment an incredible discovery. Passing by the Worcester Cathedral Sunday morning as the bells rang will be a memory we'll never forget. Black Prince Holidays ensured that our narrowboat experience was nothing short of exceptional. The meticulously maintained and fully equipped vessel provided a comfortable and cozy retreat after a day of exploration. With all the necessary amenities at hand, including a well-appointed kitchen and a comfortable sleeping area, we felt right at home throughout our journey. Our journey with Black Prince Holidays on the Stourport Ring was an amazing experience that exceeded all expectations. They were even incredibly kind enough to send my glasses to me after I mistakenly left them on board. “Family of five, mom and dad and thrrr teenage girls, had a fantastic time doing a week from Bradford on Avon to Bristol and back. Great fun, black prince were excellent. Lots of revision time for our girls for GCSEs and A level mocks intermingled with good pubs, walks and general boating fun on the locks etc. would definitely recommend”

“One of the best holidays I have ever made. Very friendly staff. They told us all we needed to know. The boat was in an excellent condition. Everything on board you need. Just go and have a bit of an adventure. But the most important: Enjoy to move slowly and relax.”

“Myself and a friend have recently completed the Mid Worcester Ring using a boat from Black Prince. I have nothing but praise for the help they gave in planning the trip (extra maps marked with stops etc), completing the paperwork and the hand over. All this was completed with friendly people who were happy to help with anything we needed. I wouldn’t have any hesitation in recommending them to people to use in the future.”

“Just returned from a week on the langollen canal with my mum, can honestly say it’s the best holiday I have ever been on and I didn’t want to come home, first time narrowboating for me, our boat “Penny” was beautiful and comfortable she was fully equipped with everything we needed,, the crew at Chirk marina were all very helpful lovely people, enjoyed every part of this experience and 100% recommend to anyone thinking about it to go for it because you won’t be disappointed, Karen and Mary x”

“A wonderful holiday although we were extremely lucky for the time of the year, everything was perfect. Two of the photos supplied of myself and my wife were both taken on the Oxford Canal 45 years apart all 3 of had a wonderful adventure, both times.”

“A very tidy modern boat, We felt the large sink with a bowl inside was pointlesss as was the small draining area. A shelf or similar would be ideal in the shower for sponges, soap etc. Note. We bought a 2nd hand boat from you (NB Moscovy 515250), had it for 12, more or less trouble free years. Very good quality boats overall.”

“Oh we had a wonderful time on our Black Prince narrow boat adventure. We came together as a family in a way we hadn’t before, we had lovely relaxing days and very enjoyable evenings as well as learning a new skill. It was a terrific experience.”

“The boat was spotless and the training provided at the start was great to help us navigate and get the feel of the vessel. I would recommend a short trip for your first attempt as it can be a bit more work than you expect. We found a crew of 3 very good for managing locks. Boat has everything you need on it and the recommendations of the staff were great.”

“Great narrowboat and great scenery (Llangollen canal), just very disappointed with the Marina staff member at Chirk who conducted the induction and decided to tell us at the end that he should have probably put his mask on as he thought he might have COVID. Sure enough, by the end of our week's holiday, we were both ill and too sick to operate the boat. Narrowboat Holiday ruined as was the rest of our UK tour and the next few months while we recovered. Thanks, mate! Despite being asked to comment on our holiday directly to Black Prince via Leighton@black-prince.com, we never heard back from Mr Leighton Jones. Things to be aware of, unless you do 5 or 6 hours a day cruising (or engine idling), there's unlikely to be enough battery power and hot water to get you through the night. So 4 hours a day cruising actually means sitting with a diesel idling for another hour or so. A lot of the supposed canal side attractions (e.g. canal side pubs, in-town restaurants) are still advertised, despite not surviving COVID lockdowns and are now permanently shut; be prepared. The narrow boat itself was well equipped, but some soft fenders would be appreciated as spending the night with the boat bashing against concrete or stone-faced moorings is hell. The "liveaboards" can be quite aggressive to holidaymakers and we experienced one who's failure to give way caused us to take avoiding action, many also think it's fun to create excessive wash so slamming your boat against the moorings. While I acknowledge most folk have a great narrowboat holiday, our experience with the "couldn't-care-less" staff members has put us off doing it again.”

Upon receiving your initial email, our Ops Manager promptly forwarded it to the base team at Chirk for a thorough investigation into the issues raised. Here we acknowledge that we did not respond to you immediately upon receiving the team's findings, and we apologise for the delay in going back to you. As we have now written to explain, concerning your complaint regarding Paul, who conducted the handover with you, it has been communicated to me by Paul and the team that there might have been a misunderstanding. Paul, at the time, neither had Covid nor exhibited any symptoms. Having previously experienced a severe episode of Covid, he took the precaution of wearing a mask before entering the boat's interior to minimize any potential risk to himself. We are genuinely sorry to learn that you and your wife fell ill during your stay with us. The global prevalence of Covid has posed challenges, with people traveling and engaging in social interactions, making it difficult to entirely mitigate the risk of transmission from any source. Once again, I apologize for the delay in responding to your concerns. As a team, we are committed to reviewing our customer service practices and complaints procedures to prevent such delays in the future. “We had a fabulous two weeks in October doing the Four Counties Ring. The boat was fantastic , comfortable and well equipped for the four elderly crew . Thank you all at Stoke.”

“My wife and I chose Black Prince for our 2nd ever narrowboat holiday. They had the configuration we wanted, from the location we wanted, and the price was in our budget. We got what we expected which was a clean boat in very good working order, exactly as advertised. The customer service was also very good. The people at Black Prince were not only responsive, but ahead of problems we had to manage. They made sure to ask us what our boating plans were and updated us on where we could expect problems and suggest alternative routes. We had wanted to do the Cheshire Ring but parts of it were closed. We knew weeks in advance to start planning for one of the alternatives they suggested, which ended up being Acton Bridge (Bartington Wharf) to Chester and back with a detour to Nantwich. But it gets better. On our travel to Manchester, the airline we used didn't send our bags along from London to Manchester. So when we got to the marina, Danny Coleman, our contact for that Black Prince location, gave us guidance on where to get clothing and food, relatively convenient to the Trent and Mersey, so we could jump right into our narrowboat holiday. It almost seems anticlimactic to mention that he gave us an excellent introduction to the boat and got us ready to operate the boat properly from stem to stern. In the mean time, Danny also made sure we could contact him via WhatsApp and he regularly checked in on us. He leant us books for navigation and planning that were with our luggage, and he made a heroic effort to get our bags to us when they finally arrived, driving over 30 minutes each way late at night to bring them to us. The final thing I'd like to mention about the boat is that our boat had 1 1/2 baths and the shower was relatively roomy (considering I'm almost 190cm and weigh about 17 stones) and also the toilets worked to perfection. Macerating toilets and a pump out system are a great choice for narrowboats. So if you're looking for a company for a narrowboat hire, I highly recommend Black Prince.”

“An excellent team met us at Bradford-upon-Avon and sorted us out with our boat. I did think though that we had been upgraded to a Signature boat, but on arrival one was not moored so I assumed I must have got that wrong, so didn't question it! However, on looking at my booking on my return I noticed that I was correct... Also, at Netham Lock we were surprised when we had to pay an additional £45, in order to sail through to moor up in Bristol. Something we had not been advised off. All in all though an extremely enjoyable trip and maybe one day we'll get to experience a Signature Boat...”

“Just returned home after a thoroughly relaxing holiday from Stock on Trent to Chester and return. We originally booked and planned for the Cheshire Ring but had to replan due to low water levels in the Peak Forrest Canal, and finally, a lock problem on the Macclesfield Canal closed the ring. With ample time (two weeks) for our return trip, we were able to stop and explore along the way without worrying much about time or any holdups.”
