“Hugh at Chartex made our experience of having a L3 survey seemless and stress-free. He's professional, knowledgeable and helpful with any questions and queries about the report. The survey was comprehensive, backed up by many photographs and details which show his knowledge. We would not hesitate to use Hugh again for any further survey needs, highly recommend.”

“AVOID This will be my 3rd time writing this review and my last. We are an asset management company, we had a house several hundred miles away which Hugh was to conduct a survey on, he went to the property after getting the keys from the estate agent. He failed to return them and sent them recorded delivery with Royal Mail back to the agent. No keys have ever been received from this surveyor therefore we had to get a locksmith to attend the property to allow future access. (£250.00) We called Hugh and he told me in no uncertain words he would not be reimbursing us for the locksmith as he could have it done for cheaper, but he would chase Royal Mail and reimburse us once the refunded him, on the condition that my previous 1* review was changed. I agreed, against my better judgment to change the review on the condition he did corrected his mistake. Needless to say he has not and I will not be changing this one, as I have found him nothing but dishonest and incompetent, if he treats people in such a perfidious way I would avoid. Quite simply a liar and not to be trusted as you can see from other reviews.”

“Buyers be aware! If you want to cancel the survey you had booked ealier he might charge you half of the fees! Its what has happended to myself- booked the survey on 04/04 scheduled for 18/04. Due to lending problem had to inform Hugh to cancel on 11/04 which I thought that was plenty enough notice. Hugh then offered me to accept either half of the fees or as a "credit" for future use- as per his argument (terms and conditions, which was nowhere to be found when the invoice was sent to me) both of which I refused swiftly. Had to fight it over Credit Card dispute claim (glad I did) and Chartex has now been instructed to provide me with full refund. Regretfully due to the deceitful and greediness of the company owner I have to leave this honest feedback. A complaint has also been sent to RICS”

“Cowboy surveyors. Spent 10 minutes inspecting the property on a level 3! Thankfully ring doorbells don't lie :). I've reported these so called 'surveyors' to the RICS and property ombudsman. Completely unprofessional.”

“Needed a Chartered Surveyor for the Quinquennial Survey on our house in Staveley for our Mortgage Lender. Found Chartex through "Local Building Surveyors". Carla was very helpful & efficient from the outset. Hugh the Surveyor was prompt & conducted a thorough Survey. The fee was fair & maybe below the average. Excellent service throughout.”

“I needed a help to buy report quickly as I had a very short deadline to exchange contracts for my new property. After being let down by another company I sent Chartex and a few other companies an email, Carla responded almost immediately with a quotation, availability and advice- this was even out of working hours. She came back to any queries I had promptly and professionally. I am still waiting to hear back from other companies! My valuation was booked and Hugh issued the report on the same day as it was completed. Chartex was not the cheapest price for what I needed however great service is definitely worth paying that little bit more for. I would definitely recommend Chartex to anyone needing to use their services. Thank you again and thank you for going that extra mile.”

“Hugh's report was extremely thorough, and he made himself available for no less than 3 follow up calls afterwards to clarify sections I was unsure about and answer additional questions I had (he was clear he was happy to take more calls if I needed). Ultimately, Hugh's inspection revealed issues with the property that I was not aware of, which would have costed me upwards of £15,000 to fully remediate - I am very glad these were found before purchasing the property! Following that, Carla provided me with invaluable advice in how to approach my follow up conversations with the vendor. I can't think of a single suggestion for how Chartex could improve their service - they were friendly, helpful, and responsive every step of the way, and I had total confidence that they had my best interests at heart from the moment I got in touch with them.”

“Chartex provide an excellent service from start to finish. After booking a valuation online, Carla got in touch to confirm a date and was very polite and helpful. Hugh arrived at my house exactly at the time specified and carried out the survey very efficiently. I was shocked to receive the valuation within hours of it being carried out, i expected to wait at least a few days. This meant i could forward the valuation immediately to my solicitors and start the ball rolling. Chartex are certainly the best company to use for this type of service, very accommodating and so efficient... thankyou 🙂”

“if you're getting a survey of a house you're about to buy, then they'll certainly identify some problems for you to lower the price. They were incredibly quick (l figured l paid about £10 per minute) and did give a lot of information very quickly. But their assessment (you need to do a lot of incredibly expensive renovations pretty urgently) did not agree with what contractors have said, and they didn't actually do the level of inspection l wanted. Maybe this is standard for surveyors - in which case l'm in the wrong job.”

A surveyor's approach is to deal with the facts and suggest long term solutions. I am sorry you did not value his expert and professional opinion, but instead, you chose to denigrate his invaluable advice. The two feet of standing water in the basement is a fact and urgently requires remedying as do the advanced rotting and woodworm activity in floors and joists on the ground floors which are unsafe. The surveyor explained that your suggestion of addressing the problem by insulating the floors, no matter how much money it saved, was not the answer. So please don't change your career path just yet. The surveyor gave you sensible solutions to address the serious problems you have with your property and also spent time explaining everything. Besides, you declined a written report from the surveyor and decided to take your own notes, another cheaper option which may not have paid off?

“Really rate this company. Very efficient back office, good communication. They did two surveys for me. Report back same day and were available pretty much immediately to discuss any queries. Highly recommend.”
